阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Living and dealing with kids can be a tough job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even tougher.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years,it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you drift apart. When you are mad at your parents,or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.
Communication begins with the concerns of another. It means that you can't just come home from school,go up to your room and ignore everyone.Even if you just say “Hi” and see how their day was for five minutes,it is better than nothing.
If you looked up the word “communication” in a dictionary. It would say “the exchange of ideas, the conveyance (表达)of information, means of communication such as a letter or a message”.To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong.Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it,tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say,but ask them politely to listen to you.Yelling or walking away only makes the situation worse.
This is an example:one night,Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with them.Needless to say,she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the incident munication is the key factor here.If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen,Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one way deal:it goes both ways.Just remember:if you get into a situation like Sophie's, tell the other person how you feel — listening is the key factor to communication.
21.All the following statements are correct except ________.
A.If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know.
B.It is better to say “Hi” to others than say nothing.
C.If you are not able to communicate, walk away.
D.Communication is a two way deal.
22.In the writers view, dealing with parents is________ than with children.
A.more difficult B.easier
C.more uninteresting D.more interesting
23.The main idea of the second paragraph is________.
A.the importance of friendship
B.to make your feeling known to others
C.the importance of communication
D.the disagreement between generations
24.The example in this passage proves that________.
A.Sophie is very polite to her parents
B.Sophie's parents are willing to listen to her
C.explanation is the best way to solve a problem
D.communication is the solution (解决办法) to misunderstanding

On Thursday, National Geographic will show the first ever Mars show home, giving earthlings (地球人) an idea of what their life could look like on the Red Planet. In the not so distant year of 2037, the igloo shaped structure could be the home of your future.
It shows a house built using recycled spacecraft parts and Martian soil, called regolith, which has been microwaved into bricks. Some parts of the home are recognizable — a kitchen, a bedroom — but there are fundamental differences that are important to human survival.
As the Martian atmosphere is around one hundredth as thick as the Earth's, people will need permanent (永久的) shelter from the sun; society will move largely indoors. Most buildings will be connected by underground passages and the houses won't have windows. The homes will have simulated solar lighting, or natural light that has been bent several times.
Walls will need to be 10 to 12 feet thick, to protect people from dangerous rays (光线) that can pass through six feet of steel, and a double air locked entrance to keep the home under proper pressure.
“We don't think of our houses as things that keep us alive, but on Mars your house will be a survival centre,” says Stephen Petranek, author of How We'll Live on Mars. This is not just the stuff of sci fi. “10 to 20 years from now there will certainly be people on Mars,” Petranek says.
“We've had the technology for 30 years to land people on Mars, but we haven't had the will,” Petranek says. But two main factors have “completely swung public attitudes”.
The private companies' participation has forced government agencies to speed up their game, and influential films such as Gravity and The Martian have caught society's eye.
25.What can we know about the show home from the text
A.It has no windows or doors due to security concern.
B.Its design presents the idea of environmental protection.
C.It has thick walls keeping the home under proper pressure.
D.Its underground passages connect all the buildings together.
26.What do the underlined words “put them on hold” in Paragraph 1 probably mean

C.Carry them through. D.Take them seriously.
27.According to Petranek, what has sped up the process of sending people to Mars
A.The great influence of the Mars show home.
B.The development of related technology.

Homestay provides English language learners with the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.
What to Expect
The host will provide accommodation and meals. Rooms will be cleaned and bedcovers changed at least once a week. You will be given the house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in your physical and mental health.
Accommodation Zones
Homestays are located in London mainly in Zones 2, 3 and 4 of the transport system. Most hosts do not live in the town centre as much of central London is commercial and not residential (居住的). Zones 3 and 4 often offer larger accommodation in a less crowded area. It is very convenient to travel in London by Underground.
Meal Plans Available
◇Continental Breakfast
◇Breakfast and Dinner
◇Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner
It's important to note that few English families still provide a traditional cooked breakfast. Your accommodation includes Continental Breakfast which normally consists of fruit juice, cereal (谷类早餐食物), bread and tea or coffee. Cheese, fruit and cold meat are not normally part of a Continental Breakfast in England. Dinners usually consist of meat or fish with vegetables followed by dessert, fruit and coffee.
Friends
If you wish to invite a friend over to visit, you must first ask your host's permission. You have no right to entertain friends in a family home as some families feel it is an invasion of their privacy.
Self Catering Accommodation in Private Homes
Accommodation on a room only basis includes shared kitchen and bathroom facilities and often a main living room. This kind of accommodation offers an independent lifestyle and is more suitable for the long stay students. However, it does not provide the same family atmosphere as an ordinary homestay and may not benefit those who need to practise English at home quite as much.
33.Why do some people choose self catering accommodation
A.To experience a warmer family atmosphere.
B.To enrich their knowledge of English.
C.To entertain friends as they like.
D.To enjoy much more freedom.

A.hosts willing to receive foreign students
B.foreigners hoping to build British culture

It is comforting to tell yourself that self control simply isn't your strong point when your New Year's resolutions (决心) start to fall apart. But, according to a scientific research, willpower is not a talent that few lucky people are born with. __1__. Everybody can learn to use their willpower more effectively. Here are a few ways to increase your chances.

Whether to schedule time to reflect on your progress such as keeping a diary or sign up for a group where everyone has a common goal, it all depends.
Make a plan
A study found that 91% of participants who wrote down a plan of when and where to exercise successfully met their goals. Planning is important because the brain builds a frame. __3__. Our brains are lazy and like to conserve energy, so regular reminders and visual clues can be helpful.

The quilt(被子)took a lot of time. But the messages on it were meaningful.
When I started my current project, I woke up every day with new ideas and fresh enthusiasm. I really believed in the importance of what I wanted to create, and I had my husband, Claudio, to cheer me on. But then, things had gotten hard.I injured my shoulder and my recovery was slow. In the middle of it, I lost Claudio to cancer. I was discouraged, lonely, and without Claudio's comfort. Facing down the half finished quilt in my sewing room one morning soon after his death,I could hardly gather the energy to sew it.
The quilt was meant to be a way to keep my old nursing class together. We'd graduated from Mercy College over 40 years before and quickly worked all over the country. After our last anniversary party, I tried to find ways for everyone to stay in touch, but nothing ever seemed to work out. I knew I needed to find a connection to share at a distance. I thought about a quilt.
I got in touch with as many of my old classmates as I could. Everyone who wanted to join the project was sent a piece of fabric (布料). They could sign it or write a personal message. Once I got the pieces back, I'd sew them into the finished piece.
I rubbed my painful shoulder and ran my hand over the unfinished quilt. Even after several operations, movement in my left arm was limited. There was still so much to do. Our class's forty fifth anniversary party was coming up but my heart wasn't in this project anymore. With Claudio's encouragement I'd kept at it despite my painful shoulder. But Claudio was gone now. Working on the quilt was impossible with my aches and pains. Why was I even trying I covered up my sewing machine and left the quilt as it was.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

参考范文:
Weeks passed but I didn't sew a thing. I saw it one afternoon when I went into my sewing room. Quilting pieces covered the table. They were filled with colorful messages from my old classmates at Mercy College. I picked one up: “Mercy sisters — friends forever!” The handwriting was messy, but the statement was true. I could almost imagine my old friends right beside me, whispering words of hope and love. Maybe I'm not as alone as I thought. Suddenly my project no longer seemed so frightening. No time to waste. I uncovered my sewing machine and got to work.
I arrived at our forty fifth anniversary party. I was equipped with pictures of the finished quilt. The ladies cheered as the photos went from hand to hand, one dear friend to another. I couldn't wait for them to hold the real thing, for them to be wrapped in the comfort of old friends, just like I had been when I needed it most.

Victor's hobby was collecting stamps. He had stamps from other countries, like England,Canada and China. On his birthday, can you guess what people gave him That's right—stamps.
Victor's favourite stamps came from France. He had almost every stamp from 1954 to 2009. He only needed one. That was a 1974 special edition. It was very hard to find.
He looked for it everywhere. He asked his friends and relatives to help him. But nobody could find the stamp. It made Victor very sad.
“Don't worry. Never give up,” his father said to him.“If you have enough patience, you'll find one one day.”
“I hope so,” Victor said.
Victor also liked writing. He had a penfriend in France. They wrote to each other every month. Victor's penfriend, Phillip, usually used new stamps to send letters. Sometimes, his mother gave him some stamps. Once Phillip's mother gave him a big, green stamp. It looked old. When Victor received the letter, he was very surprised. He looked carefully at the stamp. It was the 1974 special edition stamp. Victor was so happy. He told his sister, his mother and his father.
“You see,” his father said, “you did find your stamp. So, it's good to have two things in life. ”
“What are they?” Victor asked.
“Friends and patience, ”his father answered.

M:Can you tell me how to get to the Music Building from here I have a lecture to attend there.
W:Oh,are you new here
M:Yes, I just got here last night.
W:Well, to go to the Music Building, you have two choices. If you want to go right now,you can walk straight down this street until a post office, and then turn right. The Music Building will be straight ahead.
M:How long will it take me to get there
W:About twenty minutes.
M:What's the other choice
W:If you don't mind waiting around for a while, you can take the shuttle bus. The bus only takes about five minutes to get there.
M:Well,I guess I might as well walk.
