Step 1.Revision First ask students to read the text and ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation . Have them read and recite the words and phrases . Step 2 Lead-in Write some different tenses of sentences on the blackboard . Have students say what tenses they are . At the same time get them to say the time adverbial . He usually goes to school by bike . We are having an English class now . We will have a meeting tomorrow morning . Step 3 Presentation This will tell students the use of the simple past tense . First write some sentences of the simple past tense on the blackboard . Then get them to pay attention to the forms of verbs and the time adverbial . He was a student ten years ago . They went to the park last Sunday . We had a meeting yesterday afternoon . Tell them we use the simple past tense to talk about things in the past . Make sure they know when to use the simple past tense . Step 4 Presentation 1. Teach students how to form the past forms of verbs .
We form the simple past form by adding –ed to regular verbs . Tell them some forming ways of regular verbs . We form the past tense of irregular verbs differently . We do not add – ed . Have them see the forms on page 61 . Make sure they understand the ways and how to read them . 2. Help students to know some past time adverbial to express the past . yesterday , yesterday morning / afternoon / evening , last year / month / term / Sunday / winter/ September , two years / ten days / two weeks ago this morning / this year the day before yesterday , Step 5 Practice Help students practice some exercises on Page 62 . Then help them to read them correctly . Step 6 Homework Get students to revise what we have learned in class .
