Lesson 14: Accidents Happen
给出部分提示信息,让学生复述Lesson 13的事故,借此复习所学内容。让学生积极思考过马路要注意什么以及遇到事故如何应对,由此导入新课。
借助图片和句子语境,呈现本课生词短语,并让学生熟记。课文学习可以设置多种形式,如听后完成句子,读后回答问题,读后翻译短语,读后匹配、读后完成语篇概述等,通过自读自悟,学会独立解决问题。完成有关Let’s Do It! No. 2的练习,让学生巩固几个重要单词的用法。接下来,设置小组表演事故的活动:选择事故类别,分配事故中的角色,构思事故中的对话,最后再把它表演出来。借此让学生充分发挥创造力,在交流合作中不断探索和学习。最后,再让学生写一份有关事故的报道,此时应给予必要的提示和指导。对本课的重难知识点进行讲解,帮助学生解决学习过程中的疑惑。通过当堂达标检测所学知识点,便于学生查漏补缺。
教学目标
通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:
1. 知识目标
掌握单词:town, ugly, shoulder, wound, expect
接触单词:accident, reporter, roll, fault, icy, recover

句型:We didn’ t want to be late for practice.
Ann dropped her basketball, and it rolled onto the street.
I wanted to stop her from running after the ball, but she didn’t hear me.
After the accident, the car stopped, and the driver, Bill Morin, jumped out.
Doctors say she can expect to return to school in about a week.

Step 1 Revision
Use the given information to retell the accident happened in Lesson 13. Students should use their own language.
Beginning Danny was going to hang a star from the ceiling. He thought he was tall enough and didn’t need a ladder. Middle Danny fell down from the chair. Brian tried to catch Danny, but Danny landed on top of him. End Danny’s tail hurt a little, but it was not serious. Brian’s arm hurt, too.
Step 2 Thinking about it
What do you need to do when you cross the street
What should you do when you see someone badly hurt in an accident
Let some students share their opinions in front of the class.
Step 3 Presentation
Teach the new words and phrases accident, town, reporter, roll, fault, icy, ugly, shoulder, wound, recover, expect, in time, run after and jump out.

Step 6 Acting out
1. Divide students into small groups (5 students).
2. Ask them to discuss and decide on an accident to present in their role-play. First, the group will need to decide what roles need to be played and assign roles to their members. For example, in a motorbike accident, the five roles might be two victims, a witness, a doctor and a reporter.
3. Ask questions to help them make up their dialogues.
4. Get some groups to share their dialogues in front of the class.
