Unit2 My school Let’s Spell
Teaching objectives:
By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to:
Language knowledge:
1. Master the pronunciation of letter “i-e”;
2. Learn about the spelling rules of letter “i”;
3. Spell the new words according to the summarized rules.
Language skill:
1. Imitate the tape and read the words correctly;
2. Write the words with letter“i”correctly over listening to the audio.
3. Read the story with words containing “i-e”.
Teaching Main and difficult points:
Main points:
1. Learn the pronunciation of letter “i-e”—[ai] in the words;
2.Judge the different pronunciation of letter“i”.
Difficult points:
1. Read the words containing letter “i-e” correctly;
2. Read the words by the means of phonics.
Teaching preparation:

Teaching procedures:

Step 1. Warm—up
1. Greetings
2. Enjoy the phonics song
(Purpose: Enjoy the video about the phonics with gestures to make a good preparation for the new learning.)
Step 2. Presentation
1. Design the situation:Five mice
(1) Listen to the sound and guess what is that A mouse.
(2)How many can you guess Five mice
(3)What time is it It’s 11:30
(4)Guess where are they going Maybe…
(Purpose: Since the aim of this class is to learn the words with “i-e”, so I choose the picture book “Five mice” as the example to stimulate students’ interests to learn. Moreover I use the XIWO whiteboard to make students guess the content, which is effective.)
2. It’s so dark. Do some finding task first.
(1)Finding task1——Let’s learn
A.Look at two words and What can you find?
B.Enjoy the chant about “i-e”—[ai]
(Purpose: Guide the student to find the spelling rules by themselves and through the chant they remember well.)
(2) Finding task2——Let’s spell and read
A. ine ide ife ite ime
B.wine ripe bite pine
C.slide swine slice
D.bike nine five rice hike
E.What’s in the kitchen?
Five mice like rice
(Purpose: As students master the sound of “i-e”, finding tasks can help them enhance the ability to read the words by the spelling rules.)
3. The table is so tall. Do some jumping tasks first.
(1) Jumping task1——Let’s say
“i-e”—[ai] & “i”—[i]
(2) Jumping task2——Listen and circle
(3) Jumping task3——Listen write and say
(3)Five mice jump to the table: Five mice like rice
(Purpose: Compared with the finding tasks, jumping tasks are a little bit difficult, which aims to check whether students master the learned knowledge or not.)
4.Playtime: In the morning,five mice have a good time. Let’s go and see.
(1) Watch the video
(2) Read in four
(Purpose: In this step, picture book is introduced formally, students can watch the video to read the difficult words and through the teamwork they can learn how to cooperate with others.)

(Watch the video to find the answer)
(Purpose: Students have learned the sound of “a-e” and “i-e”, so it’s easy for them to infer the sound of “o-e”.)

1. Personal Package: Collect and read the “i-e” words.
2. Family Package: Act the story you have learned this class to your family.
Teaching Reflection:
This is the first time that I try to teach “Let’s spell’’ for the students who are in other school. Although it’s not easy to teach this type of lesson in English totally, I still drove myself to do in this way. And sometimes students might not understand me well, I tried my best to use the body language to help them. They actively involved and contributed to learning experience. With the perfect cooperation of students, I finished the teaching aims easily. In addition, I adopted various approaches to help them enhance the pronunciation of letter“i”.I think they master the pronunciation of “i-e” and can apply the learned knowledge to the real life, that is, they can spell the words correctly with rules in future. What’s more, students always gave me surprise that they could summaries the spelling rules exactly. However, this class still had the shortcoming: at the beginning of the class,I was a little bit of nervous, so I spoke too faster. Fortunately I adjusted myself quickly and thus students could be well organized.
All in all, I really appreciate this opportunity which can make me practice my ability of teaching again.
