一、教学内容
  本课时着眼于文本的信息梳理和整体理解,通过问题引导学生梳理为什么郎平和乔丹是masters,他们树立了什么样的榜样,在此基础上让学生运用所学语言谈论自己心目中的体育明星。
二、课时目标
In this class, you will
1. predict the content of the text with the help of titles and pictures;
2. figure out the achievements and qualities of Lan Ping and Michael Jordan and form opinions about successful athletes;
3. use the words and expressions you learnt in this class to introduce another "living legend" you admire

Activity 1 Activating background information about sports stars(PPT 3)
1. Talk about favorite sports stars with given pictures.
T: Who is your favorite sports player Why

T: Today we are going to learn two of them. Let’s turn to page 38.
[设计意图] 借助图片,由学生谈论自己喜爱的体育明星入手,引出主题背景,激活学生已知信 息,并引导自主提问,形成阅读期待。
Activity 2: Reading the title, subtitle & the picture to predict the main idea of the passage.
(本活动为实现课时教学目标1作铺垫。)
T: before we start reading, let’s look at the title, subtitle & the picture. What’s the passage mainly about
S: Living Legends
T: very good. What’s a legend A legend is someone who is famous and admired for being extremely good at doing something. (PPT 4)
And when we say sb is a “living legend”, we always mean that sb is famous long into the future, just like an ancient story that have survived until today. (PPT 5)
And some of you may notice the picture. What’s it about
S: Sports.
T: so we can know that maybe the text is about some great sports people alive today.
Sometimes when you don’t know the meaning of words, you can find them in the text. May I have your attention to the lead part There is also an explanation about living legends of sports. (could you please read out the answer please. )
S: They must be athletes who are masters in their sports and also set good examples for others.
T: Thank you. That’s it. And there are also to subtitles. Lang Ping and Michael Jordan. So the text may be about the two famous persons.
So far, we haven’t read the text, but we already know what the text is about with the help of the title, subtitle, lead paragraph & the picture. Here is the reading skill I want to let you know today —— that is “make predictions” :Look at the pictures and think about the content before reading. This helps you to relate what you read to what you already know and to understand the new text.
Activity 3: Reading to get related information about the two sports star
