Finish the exercise by using the skills and the strategy.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Greetings and Lead-in
Greet students and invite them to take part in an activity to win the candy.
Step 2 Sentence Practice
Show some sentences with blanks on the screen. Ask students to find the suitable words to fill in the blanks. They should tell the teacher not only the right answer but also the reason. Then they can win the candy.
As students do it, discuss with them and show the skills on the screen.
Summarize the skills and ask students to pay attention to them.
Step 3 Reading Learning
Show an article with blanks on the screen, have students scan it without writing and then invite a student to say the main idea.
Then ask students to read it again carefully and find the right words by using the skills they have learnt.
Invite two students to show their answers on the blackboard. Compare the differences, let students discuss them and find the suitable words.
Next, remind students to read a third time and check their answers.
Last, summarize the strategy with students. And call students’ attention to the strategy.
Step 4 Reading Practice
Ask students to finish the following exercise by using the skills and the strategy. Give them several minutes. Move around the classroom and help them if they need. Then students check and discuss the answers. Help them to find the best one if they are puzzled.
The first article is about the love between human and animals, the second one is a warm story about a cute girl and a sad woman. Help students to realize the teaching aim of moral object: help someone in need, because hope keeps us going and love keeps us alive.
Step 5 Summary and Homework
Show the skills and the strategy again. Ask students to finish the last exercise by using the knowledge they have learnt after class.
Teaching prediction:
The students of Grade Nine often feel tired and anxious, so making students feel relaxed is a good way to catch their eyes. An interesting and relaxing “lead-in” is very important.
During step 3, students may show different answers, that’s the key point. Let students discuss the problem and find the best answer by themselves. They will learn more in this way.
