For anyone still doubting the belief that our emotions influence our physical health, a new study from New Zealand should be able to settle the matter. It reports that the physical wounds of healthy seniors healed more quickly if they wrote about their most upsetting experiences.
This confirms the results of a 2010 study, and extends those findings to cover older adults—a group that is likely to suffer wounds (as from surgery), and one with less access to other ways of lowering tension (such as exercise).
Reported in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine, a research team led by the University of Auckland’s Elizabeth Broadbent made a study featuring 50 healthy adults ranging in age from 64 to 97. They were asked to write for 20 minutes per day for three consecutive (连续的) days.
Half were asked to write about the most upsetting experience in their life, describing their deepest thoughts, feelings, and emotions about the events, ideally not previously shared with others. The others were asked to write about their daily activities without mentioning emotions, opinions or beliefs.
Two weeks after the third day of writing, all participants received a standard 4mm skin biopsy (皮下活体组织检查) on their inner arm. The very tiny wounds caused by the biopsy were photographed regularly over the following days to determine the rate at which they healed.
On the 11th day after the biopsy, the wounds completely healed on 76.2 percent of those who had done the expressive writing. That was true of only 42.1 percent of those who had written about everyday activities.
“The biological and psychological mechanisms (机体) behind this effect remain unclear,” the researchers wrote, noting that those who had done the expressive writing did not report lower stress levels or fewer depressive symptoms than the others in the control group. Even if they weren’t consciously aware of feeling more relaxed or positive, the expressive writing appeared to have caused some sort of bodily reaction—probably involving their immune systems—that hastened their recovery.
24.What was the difference between the two groups of participants in the study
A.What they wrote. B.Where they wrote.
C.When they wrote. D.How often they wrote.
25.According to the text, the experiment lasted __________.
A.about three days B.about a month
C.about two weeks D.about ten days
26.The underlined word “hastened” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to _______.
A.speeded B.showed C.limited D.ruined
27.What would be the best title of the text
A.Sharing with others can reduce stress.
B.Skin biopsies are likely to cause wounds.
C.Expressive writing heals physical wounds.
D.Upsetting experiences influence our emotions.

English is fast becoming the language of science around the world, but what is its future among everyday speakers One expert points out that the percentage(比率) of native English speakers is declining (降低) while the languages of other rapidly growing regions are being spoken by increasing numbers of people. But English will continue to remain widespread and important.
However, British language scholar David Graddol says English will probably drop in dominance(主导) by the middle of this century to rank after Chinese, about equally with Arabic, Hindi, and Urdu. “The number of people speaking English as a first language continues to rise, but it isn’t rising nearly as fast as the numbers of many other languages around the world, simply because the main population group has been largely in the less developed countries where languages other than English have been spoken,” he says.
In a recent article in the journal Science, Mr. Graddol noted that three languages that are not near the top of the list of the most widely spoken now might be there soon. These are Bengali, Tamil, and Malay, spoken in south and southeast Asia.
David Crystal, the author of the Cambridge Encyclopedia of the English Language, says about 1.5 billion of the world’s six billion people speak it as a second language compared to the 400 million native speakers. But another expert on the English language says Mr. Graddol underestimates (低估) the future of its dominance. “Nobody quite knows what’s going to happen because no language has been in this position before. But all the evidence (证据) suggests that the English language snowball is rolling down a hill and is getting faster” he said.
28.In David Graddol’ s opinion, English will _______.
A.remain widespread and important
B.be more important than any other language
C.lose its dominant position
D.die away in the near future
29.The underlined sentence in the last paragraph implies that ______.
A.more and more language users will choose English
B.the English language snowball is rolling down faster than any time in the past
C.English language will soon drop in dominance
D.snowballs will roll down faster than language balls
30.How many experts does the passage mention who express their ideas about the future of English
A.2. B.3. C.4. D.5.
31.What should be the best title for the passage
A.English Remaining in the Dominant Position
B.The Future of English Who Knows
C.Opinions from Different Experts
D.The English Language Snowball Rolling Down

What kinds of rooms are your favorite spots for studying We are going to guess that they are probably not painted bright red or yellow. But maybe they should be. Imagine. You are suddenly asked to prepare for an exam. You have two rooms to choose from. One is a pale blue, and the other is a bright red. Which one do you settle into for study Is one going to get your brain fired up for learning, or let you relax into a best state of concentration
According to researchers at Curtin University in Australia, it might be the best to camp out in the bright red room when you are looking to store information. It might sound strange, since we often think of pale rooms — soft blues or light greens — as relaxing, or even reassuring And they seem to be: The Curtin University study showed that pale colors made participants feel more relaxed and calm, while bright colors increased heart rate. But calming and relaxing, it turns out, may not always be the best environment for deep concentration or knowledge gaining. Reading comprehension (阅读理解) was much better in the bright rooms than in the paler rooms. Although participants reported that they generally preferred the pale rooms to study in as an approach to relax into work, the researchers saw just the opposite — that the bright-colored rooms seemed to lead to greater concentration.
While this might seem only surprising, the finding gets into a rather controversial area of psychological (心理学的) study. The Yerkes-Dodson Law says that a little bit of stress is good for achieving best performance, while too much stress negatively affects it. The higher heart rate and the reports of the bright colors creating a heavy atmosphere might just suggest that a little stress was good for the brain.
32.What is the common idea mentioned in the first paragraph
A.Few people like bright red or yellow. B.Pale colors are connected with good grades.
C.Light-colored rooms make you feel nervous.
D.Bright-colored rooms are not good for studying.
33.What might directly affect the research results according to Paragraph 2
A.Participants’ preferences in colors. B.How participants reacted to colors.
C.Time participants spent in the rooms. D.What participants read in the rooms.
34.What can be concluded from the study by Curtin University
A.Most people know how to make use of colors.
B.Stress is needed when you want to concentrate.
C.The higher the stress, the better your performance.
D.Being relaxed is very important to people studying.
35.What’s the main idea of the text
A.Findings about people’s favourite room colors.
B.Bright-colored rooms can create a heavy atmosphere.
C.Room colors can affect one’s academic performance.
D.Light-colored rooms help people feel relaxed into work.

We all face quantities of stresses in day-to-day living, whether at work, in the home, or anywhere in between. 36 Here’s how stress can help us on an everyday basis.
◆ Sharpen your memory.

38
Successful employees turn stress into motivation. When you take risks and choose to get over the difficulty, it improves your mental toughness and self-confidence.
◆ Helping you resist the attack of illness.
39 Believe it or not, the right kind of stress can help your body’s defenses against illness. When you get sick, stress causes you to make hormones that battle threats to your health. That burst of stress is helpful to your immune system when your body faces a threat.
◆ Making your life more interesting.
Think about some stressful situations that we consciously put ourselves in to make life more interesting and enjoyable, like asking someone out on a first date, conquering a known fear, or learning something new. These may not immediately come to mind when you think of stress because of the positive outcomes. 40

_____________________________________________________________________________试卷第1页,共3页
1-5:CBBCA 6-10:BAACA 11-15:BBCAB 16-20:ABCCB
故选A项。
根据Purchase Ticket Directly at Hong Kong Disneyland Ticket Express部分中“Open from 9: 00am—8: 00pm on Monday to Friday”可知售票中心周一是早上九点至晚上八点开放,即购票最晚不能迟于晚上八点。
Purchase 2 Park Tickets at one of the following locations and receive a FREE limited-edition Disney gift可知,在Avenue of Stars Kiosks或者Asia World-Expo Box Office购票可免费获得一份礼品,故选B项。
故A正确。
They were asked to write for 20 minutes per day for three consecutive (连续的) days. Two weeks after the third day of writing, all participants received a standard 4mm skin biopsy (皮下活体组织检查) on their inner arm. On the 11th day after the biopsy, the wounds completely healed on 76.2 percent of those who had done the expressive writing.
For anyone still doubting the belief that our emotions influence our physical health, a new study from New Zealand should be able to settle the matter. It reports that the physical wounds of healthy seniors healed(愈合) more quickly if they wrote about their most upsetting experiences.
根据第二段“However, British language scholar David Graddol says English will probably drop in dominance (主导) by the middle of this century to rank after Chinese, about equally with Arabic, Hindi, and Urdu.
根据最后一段“But another expert on the English language says Mr. Graddol underestimates (低估) the future of its dominance. 故选A。
根据第一段“One expert points out that the percentage(比率) of native English speakers is declining (降低) while the languages of other rapidly growing regions are being spoken by increasing numbers of people. 及第二段“However, British language scholar David Graddol says English will probably drop in dominance (主导) by the middle of this century to rank after Chinese, about equally with Arabic, Hindi, and Urdu. 及最后一段“But another expert on the English language says Mr. Graddol underestimates (低估) the future of its dominance.
根据文章第一段“English is fast becoming the language of science around the world, but what is its future among everyday speakers (英语正迅速成为世界各地的科学语言,但在日常使用者中它的未来是什么呢?)” The Future of English Who Knows
根据第一段第一、二句话“What kinds of rooms are your favorite spots for studying We are going to guess that they are probably not painted bright red or yellow.(什么样的房间是你最喜欢的学习场所?
根据第二段第三句话“And they seem to be: The Curtin University study showed that pale colors made participants feel more relaxed and calm, while bright colors increased heart rate.(事实似乎是这样的:柯廷大学的研究表明,苍白的颜色使参与者感到更放松和平静,而明亮的颜色则增加了心率)”可知,直接影响研究结果的是参与者对颜色的反应。
根据第二段最后一句话“Although participants reported that they generally preferred the pale rooms to study in as an approach to relax into work, the researchers saw just the opposite — that the bright-colored rooms seemed to lead to greater concentration.(尽管参与者报告说,他们通常更喜欢在浅色的房间里学习,以此作为放松工作的一种方式,但研究人员看到的恰恰相反——明亮的房间似乎能让人更集中注意力)”可知,色彩明亮的房间可以制造适当的压力,让人们学习时能够更加集中注意力。
根据文章第一段第一句“What kinds of rooms are your favorite spots for studying .(什么样的房间是你最喜欢的学习场所?)”
36.G 根据上文“We all face quantities of stresses in day-to-day living, whether at work, in the home, or anywhere in between.(我们每天面临许多来自各方面的压力)”和下文“Here’s how stress can help us on an everyday basis.(下面是怎样使压力帮助我们)”可知,虽然压力不好,但如果妥善处理的话,也会带来好处。
37.D 根据上文“Did you ever notice that sometimes when you are stressed, your memory seems to improve Remember that test you passed where the answers seemed to come out of nowhere (你有没有注意到有时候当你感到压力时,你的记忆力似乎有所提高?
根据下文“Successful employees turn stress into motivation. Have you ever noticed that you get the least amount of work done when you have the fewest deadlines Too little stress can affect how much you actually get done.
61.that 62.to be 63.a 64.of 65.it 66.teaching
67.has carried/ has been carrying 68.communication 69.if 70.beautiful
seem to do是固定短语,意为“似乎做某事”,因此空格处是to be。故填to be。
It is said that...
spend some time doing是固定短语,意为“花费时间做某事”,因此空格处是动名词teaching,故填teaching。
由“for thousands of years”可知,句子时态用现在完成时或现在完成进行时,主语“The written form of the Chinese language”是单数概念,因此空格处是has carried/has been carrying。故填has carried/has been carrying。

1.Celebrate后面加the 2.Unfortunately—Fortunately 3 .were--was
4.flower—flowers 5. passed--passing 6.to—with 7.去掉but
8.so--such 9.which--that 10.power—powerful
Fortunately.
本题易误在passed前面加we,根据语境可以判断,若when引导时间状语从句,应该用进行时态when we were passingTian’anmen Square故排除加we的可能.
6.be filled with:充满,是固定用法.
8. Such修饰名词常用结构为such+a/an+形容词+名词,so修饰形容词,常用结构为so+adj.+a/an+n.
9.So… that如此…..
Dear Peter,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well. Here are a few suggestions.
First, it is important to take a Chinese course, as you’ll be able to learn from the teacher and practice with your fellow students. Then, it is beneficial for you to watch TV and read books, newspapers and magazines in Chinese whenever possible. Besides, it should be a good idea to learn and sing Chinese songs, because by doing so you’ll learn and remember Chinese characters more easily. You can also make more Chinese friends. They will tell you a lot about China and help you learn Chinese.
Try and write to me in Chinese next time.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
