The Princess and the Pea
Once upon a time there was a prince, and he wanted a princess, and she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all round the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted.
One evening, a terrible storm came. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the gate, and the old Queen went to open the door. It was a princess standing out there before the gate. The water ran down from her hair and her clothes. And yet she said that she was a real princess.
"Well, we'll soon find that out," thought the old Queen. But she said nothing. She went into the bedroom, took all the bedding off the bedstead(床架), and laid a pea at the bottom. Then she took twenty mattresses(褥垫) and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eiderdowns(鸭绒被) on top of the mattresses. On this the princess lay all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said the princess. "I have hardly closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, and I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's terrible!" Now they knew that she was a real princess, because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eiderdowns.
So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess.

Chapter 2
Alice was not hurt, so she jumped to her feet in a moment. She looked up and found the White Rabbit still near her. She was close behind it when she turned the corner, but the Rabbit was no longer to be seen. She found herself in a long, low hall.
There were doors all around the hall, but they were all locked.
Alice walked sadly down the middle, thinking about how she was ever to get out again.
Suddenly, she saw a little three-legged table. There was nothing on it but a small golden key, and Alice's first idea was that this might belong to one of the doors of the hall.
But either the locks were too large, or the key was too small. Just then she saw a low curtain(窗帘) she had not noticed before and behind it was a small door. She tried the small golden key in the lock, and she was pleased to open the door with the key!

Jenny had a lot of animal friends in the forest. She often played with them there.
One day, Jenny walked into the forest to play with her animal friends. But to her surprise, the forest was very quiet and the animals weren't there! Jenny hurried to go home and told her parents. There was once a young mouse that lived in a hole in a wall. One day, the young mouse woke up from his sleep and looked out of the hole. As he looked out, a fantastic smell came to his nose. "Cheese!" the mouse said happily to himself. "I'll go and get it now and have it for my breakfast."
