Step1. Presentation Play a dialogue for the students to listen and check and see if they can understand it Get the students to listen and repeat with the help of the text. Can you find out the ways of linking sounds together Use some pictures to presents some phrases A picture of an apple: an apple A picture of a family of three: father and mother A picture of some dogs and a fish: Look at the picture. A picture of a cake: a big cake Get the students to read the phrases and help them find out the four ways of linking s sounds We usually link a consonant sound with a vowel sound When the first words ends in –r or –re and the next word begins with a vowel sounds, we join them together with a /r/ sound between them When there are two vowels sounds, we join them as if there were a /j/ or /w/ between them Listen and understand Listen and repeat Why we can’t understand Learn understand
When two consonant sounds of the two words meet, we sometimes do not need to pronounce the first consonant sound Step2.
