You may think there is only sand in the desert of the world, but it is not true. In the desert, as we know, there is a little rain, but it is not enough for most plants. Still we can see some plants live in the desert.
There is water in some places in the desert. We call these places oases (绿洲). In the oases, there are villages and towns. People grow all kinds of crops in the fields there.
People also live around the oases. They have camels, sheep and other animals. These animals depend on the desert plants for their food and do not need too much water. The animals are useful to the desert people in many ways. They eat the meat and drink the milk of the animals. They use the camel for carrying water, food, tents and something else.
The people of the desert have to keep moving from place to place. They must always look for grass or desert plants for their animals. When there is no more food for animals, they move to another place. The desert people are friendly. No man in the desert would ever refuse to help the people in trouble and give them food or water.

It wouldn’t feel like autumn without the view, smell and sound of falling leaves. But why do some trees change their colors as autumn comes
First, let’s talk a little bit about why leaves are usually green. Humans have to eat food to keep us alive, but for plants, they use the sun to turn water and CO2 in air into delicious sugar. The secret to that is chlorophyll (叶绿素), which takes in sunlight and happens to be green. As autumn comes, the sun stays up for less time every day. That makes it hard for chlorophyll to keep trees sugared up. Trees stop producing new chlorophyll, because doing so would be a waste of energy.
But where do all those oranges, reds and yellows come in Chlorophyll is usually believed to be the first reason, but leaves also have other pigments, including the ones that make carrots orange and turn egg yolks(蛋黄) yellow. Sometimes, trees also produce red pigments. Leaves make them only in autumn, and scientists aren’t sure why it happens. One guess is that these deep reds help protect dying leaves from sun damage, allowing them to collect energy just a little longer.
The coloring of autumn leaves is the result of a mix of these red, orange and yellow pigments. So environmental conditions that change how much there is of each—such as sunlight, soil and temperature—can make a big difference. Colors change according to species (种类), too.
