Unit 2 I was born in Quincy.
Analysis of Teaching Material:
Module 7 My Past Life (from Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press) is for the 7th graders;it was composed of Unit 1 I was born in a small village(conversation), Unit 2 I was born in Quincy(passage)and Unit 3 Language in use(language drilling).
Analysis of Target Students:
Seventh Graders;
First time to read a passage full of Past Simple ;
Interested in this topic but few of them have adequate topic-related expressions;
Have limited skills in reading and need to improve reading strategies in predicting and taking notes;
Learnt about “There be...” but do not have the sense of describing a house with sentence patterns like “There is/are...with...”

Quincy is on the east coast of America. It’s called the “City of Presidents” and “Birthplace of the American Dream”. Quincy is the birthplace of the second and the sixth U.S. presidents, John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams.

Step 6: Teaching Reflection:
First, this passage is designed according to PSC model. Natural lead-in about my past life creates a relaxing and harmonious learning environment, which meanwhile also helps the target students to get close to me, a new teacher for them. Besides, this design is composed of pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading. To some extent, while-reading is the highlight of my design, in which I designed different tasks to help the students to learn how to read, such as, several subjective questions for para.1-2, blank-filling for para.3-4 and an open question for discussion for para.5, from easy to hard. It is the task-based learning methods that promotes students comprehensive language competence. Finally, the imitative writing consolidates the input of the language learning and checks the output of the students’ learning . All in all, this design is helpful to the students’ core competence, like language skills and knowledge, attitudes to learning, learning strategies, and cultural awareness.
