I. Analysis of the teaching contents:
The topic of this unit is about how to describe your favourite writer. Besides, students should know some past forms of verbs. This lesson is the first of the unit, whose contents are fundamental. So students learn to the forms of verbs and they may practice by doing some exercises.
II. The analysis of the students:
As teenagers, students will be highly interested in such a topic as introductions of the great writers. It’s easy for them to learn some new words and phrase. They are willing to talk about the topic and they are ready to receive more fantastic activities. But students should use the past forms of the verbs as well in context. The irregular verbs may be the biggest problem for them.
III. Teaching aims
Knowledge aims i. Students should be able to understand and say the new words: some past forms of verbs;ii. Students shall master the main structures like She was born in/on … She began to … ;iii. Students should use the verbs freely.
Ability aims i. Students are able to use what questions to inquire and reply;ii. Students can improve their writing and speaking;iii. Students will be able to talk about their favourite writers and great books with the target language.

Step 1Warm-up i. Lead-in. Talk about some great book and great writers; ii. Warm-up Watch the picture and talk about Shakespeare. i. Talk about their favourite writers and books. ii. Step 2 Pre- language in use part i. Free talk.Show the students the writer called Shakespeare. And provide some information about him. Especially give them the verbs and some main points. i. Look at the chart and the table, and discuss the writer’s life history. For example, where was he born What did he do in … And then what happened to him ... i. To encourage them to use the information provided to introduce people in the past. To help them know about the past forms of the verbs.
Step3Practice students’ listening by learning the part-the around the world. i. Please students watch some photos about Shakespeare’s birthplace. Then Show students the sentences and ask them to fill in the blanks after listening to the material. ii. First, let them guess the missing words before listening according to the topic and some sentences.(Read the sentences before listening.) iii. Check the answers. i. Look the sentences provided. ii. Students read the sentences before listening.iii. Check and correct if necessary.iv. Guess the meaning of some new words.v. Check the answer individually. It trains students’ basic listening and recognizing skills. Let students learn how to predict the answer according to the photo or sentences and other information.
Step4Practice the past forms of verbs i. Exercise Use the exercises in the textbook. To sum up the rules of the past forms of verbs. i. Finish the exercisesii. Check the answers individually. i. Students can learn the rules of past forms of verbs and learn to describe some people or how to chat with others about favourite writers.
Step 5Practice the past forms of verbs, especially some irregular verbs. i. Exercises Use the exercises in the textbook. To sum up some irregular verbs such as left, lost, wrote, had, shopped, stopped and so on. i. Finish the exercises about some life history.ii. Check the answers individually. i. Students can learn past forms of irregular verbs and learn to describe some people or how to chat with others about favourite writers. .
Step 6Pre-writing i. Show the information about a writer, and encourage them to discuss it. i. Let students know about the structures that they may use soon. i. Master the main structures and some past forms of verbs.
Step 7Writing part i. Show them the table about Bin Xin. ii. Practice the main point according to the information. And then let them write a passage about her life. iii. Group work: Before writing, can work in a group, and discuss it. iv. Read some difficult sentences together. Speak out the past forms of the verbs.Try to write down some sentences about Bin Xin. Students can practice in a group and choose the leader of the group to present performances. i. Encourage students to master the details of the listening.ii. Students go over the points iii. Put the knowledge into use. Describe the people with the target language. The cooperation is also important as well.
