Do you use hand gestures when you talk Do you open your mouth when you are surprised These are all examples of body language. How important can it be Follow Teens and have a look.
Body language does not use words. It uses the movement or position of your body to show certain meanings.
According to American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 per cent of communication is done through body language. In some cases you even express yourself without words. For example, if your friend asks you to join him in a picnic, you will give him an “OK” gesture to say: “Yes, sounds great!” Sometimes, your words say one thing, but your body language says another. You may do things
unconsciously (无意识地) like touching your face while telling a lie.
In different cultures, the same body language means different things. In the US, making eye contact with someone means you are interested in what the person is saying. While in some Asian countries, it is rude to look into a person’s eyes during a conversation.
Sometimes, different body language expresses the same meaning. Take “hello” for example. French people kiss cheeks to say hello. Japanese people bow. Maoris (毛利人) in New Zealand, however, touch noses in greeting.

It’s very important for you to express your ideas and understand the messages of other people by body language. Here is a guide for beginners. Be aware that body language doesn’t have the same meaning everywhere in the world! Some people do these things just out of habit or by chance.
Understand the meanings of looks.
When you look at strangers in the eyes, you are saying “I want to know more about you.” When your eyes are locked onto a specific (具体的) part of a person’s face, you are saying “I’m nervous.” When you raise your eyebrow, you are saying “Oh, really ” When you widen your eyes, you are saying “I am amazed.”
Express yourself through facial expressions.
When you smile with teeth and close your eyes a bit, you are saying “I am very happy.” When you walk all the time looking at the ground, you aren’t feeling confident. When you frown (皱眉), you are saying “I am bored or I am unhappy.”
Place your shoulders.
When your shoulders are open and wide, you are saying “I’d like to meet new people.” When your shoulders are closed and hunched (耸肩), you are saying “Leave me alone, please.”

Sign language is a kind of body language. Body language includes eye contact, walking postures, standing postures and gestures. Body language can express all kinds of thoughts and feelings. Different cultures have different body language. Here are some common gestures in different cultures.
In America, a thumb-up sign means “It’s good.” or “It’s OK.” while a thumb-down sign means the opposite (相反的). In China, a thumb-up sign is used to praise someone for being “good”“great” and “smart”. _____ For example, in Japan, that also means “man”, “your father” and “the highest”. In South Korea, it also means “the chief”“one’s own father”“minister” and “captain”. In Australia, the United States, Mexico and other
