Teaching Design
Teaching Analysis This lesson is from the Eighth Grade, Book 2. It’s the first lesson. Use three main tenses to describe their favorite cartoons and cartoon characters, including the reasons. It’s mainly a revision module for the present perfect tense and how to use the present simple tense, the past simple tense and the present perfect tense correctly.
Teaching Objectives (1)Knowledge and Skill:1. Words: cartoon, handsome, smart, fight, cool, humorous, can’t help dong sth., laugh, lesson2. The differences among the Present Simple Tense, the Past Simple Tense and the Present Perfect. 3. Students can make up a dialogue to talk about their favorite cartoons and cartoon characters. (2)Process and Procedure:Make sure the students are the masters of this class. The teacher will mainly use the Task- based Language Teaching Method and Group-working Method to complete the language input and output. The teacher will stimulate students’ learning interest by PK among the 4 groups. This lesson is about listening and speaking. The teacher designs many different kinds of speaking and listening activities to accomplish the task, step by step. At the very first, the students can use the simple sentences and phrases to talk about their favorite cartoons and cartoon characters. And after this lesson, they will be able to use much more complicated sentences and phrases to make a role – play. (3)Emotional, Attitude and ValueStudents will be informed of the long history of cartoons. Students should learn to care about others and be ready to help those in danger.

Step 1: Lead-in T: Ask students about their group symbol: GG Bond, Mr. Cat, Calabash Brother and the Monkey King. Find out whether they know the Superman and Spiderman. Introduce the history of the American Heroes. Show students a clip of video. T: Play a guessing game.S: Look at the pictures and guess cartoons. (One point for one correct answer.) Bring up the topic of today’s lesson and stimulate students’ learning interest. 5 mins
Step 2: Speaking T: Show the conversation to the whole class. A: What is your favorite cartoon B: I like …best./ My favorite cartoon is….A: What do you think of it B: It’s….(funny, exciting, meaningful…)A: Does it end in a happy way B: Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t.S: Finish the easy conversation with partners. ...T: In order to make up a more complicated conversation, students need to prepare in three aspects: contents involved; details mentioned; pronunciation and intonation. Step 3: Read and answer the following questions. T: play the MP3 of the conversation by Tony and Betty.S: find out the answers.…T: play the video about Tony and Daming. Students show their dialogues to the whole class. …T: Show a picture to the whole class and make students clear that it’s dangerous to imitate what they saw in the films and cartoons.
