Step 1 Lead-in 1. Show a group of pictures about different cartoon heroes; 2. Have Ss think about their favorite cartoon hero and the teacher’s. 1. Look at the pictures and say their names out;2. Say their favorite cartoon hero and give one or two simple reasons. Warm up the topic and have Ss remind the cartoon heroes they like.
Step 2 Pre-reading Show a picture of the teacher’s favorite hero (Snoopy) and teach some new words. Have Ss ask and answer the questions like who, what, how, why… about a cartoon hero.After looking through the whole text, have Ss read through the para1 and find out the facts and opinions of the first 2 heroes. Have Ss learn to use the “facts and opinions” to read about the next 3 heroes in para2-5.Help Ss analyze the structure of the whole test and remind them the language features. 1. Look at the information of Snoopy and think about the aspects of knowing about a hero. 2. Ask and answer:Who is the hero What is it like What does it look like The presentation of Snoopy helps Ss learn about how to analysis a hero by asking and answering them with wh-questions.
Step 3While-reading Ss read through the text quickly and find out the names of the heroes.Ss read carefully about the each paragragh one by one and find the facts and opinions.Ss to analyze the outline of the whole text in some aspects like “who, when, what, where, how”. Ss read the text by themselves through skimming and scanning, then find out the real specific information.Analyze the structures of the passage, for teaching them the way to write a similar article.
Step 4 Post-reading 1. Ask the students to talk about which heroes they want to be in their dreams.2. Have Ss discuss in groups about the reason why people create cartoons. 1. Interview a partner about their dream heroes. 2. Have a group work to think further about the background of the creation of cartoons. Ss will have a chance to talk about their dream heroes and think critically about making cartoons.
Step5Summary Summary & Homework. Write about a favorite
cartoon hero. Students talk about what we’ve learned today.
