It was Christmas morning. Mark received a gift from his grandma. "It must be the video game she promised!" Mark thought. However, when he opened the gift, he discovered it was a red thick woolen sweater, which was a bit too big for him. And its sleeves weren't even the same size.
Then Mark said,"I hate the ugly sweater." "You shouldn’t say that!" his mom explained. "Do you know..." Suddenly, the phone rang and Mark’s mom went to pick it up. It was Mark’s grandma, and she wanted to speak to Mark.
"Hi, Grandma," Mark said.. "Do you like the sweater I chose red because I thought it would look lovely on you," his grandma said. "Honestly, it looks terrible," Mark replied and hung up the phone. His grandma was so sad and cried after hearing Mark”s hurtful comments.
Little did Mark know the sweater's real value. His grandma had knitted(编织) the sweater by hand though she was legally blind. She had created the sweater by love rather than sight. This year, Mark's parents were unable to travel to Philadelphia to meet his grandma for the holidays, so she decided to send a gift to Mark because she was missing him terribly.
Days later, Mark's parents planned a short ski trip. Before leaving home, Mark's mom forced Mark to wear the sweater because it was cold that day. Due to the heavy snow, Mark's father drove slowly. When they finally reached their destination, it was late in the evening. Unable to ski that day, Mark wanted at least to go and look around. His mom asked him not to go too far. Mark nodded and raced off to a nearby place.
However, when Mark was playing, he accidentally fell, injured his head, and was unconscious. Later, finding Mark missing, his parents were worried and looked for him. "Mark, come back now!" they shouted, but there was no reply. They asked a few passers-by whether they had seen a child, but no one knew anything.
Paragraph 1: Then they called the police and reached out to the hotel workers.
Paragraph 2: "Boy, the sweater saved your life. It kept the majority of your body warm," the doctor said.

Paragraph 1:
Then they called the police and reached out to the hotel workers. With the help of a few workers, they began looking for Mark. Soon the police arrived and joined them. Suddenly, one worker found a shoe behind a tree. He immediately informed the police and Mark's parents, and they hurried to the location. There they discovered Mark, who was unconscious and covered with snow. Hurriedly, Mark was taken to hospital, but he didn't wake up until a few hours later.
Paragraph 2:
"Boy, the sweater saved your life. It kept the majority of your body warm," the doctor said. Knowing it was due to the sweater that he was saved, Mark was sorry for being rude to his grandma. When Mark's parents told him what great efforts his grandma had taken to create the sweater, Mark finally understood its true value. He called his grandma, thanked her and apologized for those hurtful comments. Hearing Mark's words, his grandma felt a sense of relief. Now,many years have passed, and Mark still likes the sweater best.

I was working in San Diego, California in the fall of 1981. I received a big operation in a hospital there due to an illness. The doctors had to put a steel stick in my body, which made breathing and moving around quite difficult.
After I felt much better and left the hospital, I was given two months' leave by my boss. I decided to go back to my home in Peoria, Illinois to recover. Knowing that, some of my colleagues kindly offered to accompany(陪同) me home. I thanked them but declined, for I didn’t want to trouble them. I usually went home in summer, so I didn’t think to dress for the fall weather Illinois was having. A windbreaker(风衣) was the warmest piece of clothing I wore when I started my journey home without telling my parents about my visit.
Arriving in Chicago just minutes after the last bus to Peoria had left, I could either sleep in the cold, wet bus stop or take a bus that would pass by a bus station in Bloomington, just 30 miles from Peoria. Finally, I decided to go to Bloomington, thinking that it would be a short ride home the next morning.
As the bus moved towards Bloomington, it started snowing and the temperature began to drop, which greatly affected the traffic. Finally, when the bus dropped me off, I found the whole town was dark and that everything was closed.
There I was, in pain at three in the morning, and it was snowing and extremely cold. My windbreaker didn't save me from the bad weather at all. "I should have worn a thick coat!" I thought, but it was no use regretting. I held my arms and legs close to my body in the doorway of the bus station, not having any idea what to do. The metal stick in my body and the cold air were making it almost impossible for me to breathe. I started to lose consciousness(意识).
Paragraph 1:
Then I heard a gentle voice and saw a hand pulling me up.
Paragraph 2:
After getting home and resting for some days, I drove to Bloomington to find the man.
参考范文
Paragraph 1:
Then I heard a gentle voice and saw a hand pulling me up. He half carried and half pulled me until we reached a deserted house near the bus station. He laid me down on an old sofa and covered me with his coat immediately to keep me warm. Then he sat next to me and looked after me until I felt better. I thanked him, but being tired and weak, I fell asleep soon. When I woke up, the man had gone away, leaving some food and a cup of coffee for me.
Paragraph 2:
After getting home and resting for some days, I drove to Bloomington to find the man. I wanted to return the coat and do something to express my thanks for his kindness. However, the search was really difficult. I didn't know his address or even his name. I described what he looked like to the staff members of the bus station and drove around the town to find him, but nothing worked. It has been many years since then, but I will never forget the man who brought me warmth on that cold day.
