The Flaming Mountain(火焰山) is in the north of Turpan, Xinjiang. It is the hottest place in China with its highest surface temperature(地表温度) reaching about 89℃ in summer. No plants live here because of the high temperature.
How to reach:
At Urumqi Southern Bus Station, there are buses for Turpan. The buses are from 9：00 a. m. to 8：00 p. m. Upon reaching Turpan Bus Station, visitors can take the bus to Shanshan and get off at the scenic spot(景区). The buses from Turpan to Shanshan operate from 8：00 a. m. to 8：00 p. m. Or you can try the donkey cart to the mountain. If your car is good enough, you can also to drive the scenic spot.
When to go:
Of the months from June to October, August is the best month to visit. It is the harvest(收获) time for local fruits, especially the grapes. Besides, the Silk Road Turpan Grape Festival starts around August 20 every year and lasts for several days.
