从以上的例子可以看出，要表达过去的事情，如自己的出生时间、地点等，就要用动词的过去式。be 动词的过去式为was, were,如下：

一般过去时（ 1）
2. 结构：动词用过去式
They were twelve last year.
1一般过去时，表示过去发生的动作或存在的状态.常用时间状语：last +名词
( last night / week / month / year, ),
the day before yesterday 前天, yesterday 昨天 ，in +过去时间(in 1980),
… ago(ten years ago),等等.
（昨晚 / 上周 / 上个月 / 去年）

3、Be(was, were) 的否定句，直接在was,
were 后加not, 缩写为wasn’t, weren’t;
一般疑问句直接把was, were调到句首。如：
肯定句：I was born in Beijing.
否定句：I wasn’t born in Beijing.
一般疑问句：Were you born in Beijing
肯定回答：Yes, I was.
否定回答：No, I wasn’t.
