1. Tidy up your house before your guest arrives.客人到达前, 把家里整理好。
tide up “收拾, 整理”
Language Points
eg:It is a good habit to tidy up the bedroom after getting up. 起床后整理好卧室是好习惯。
[注意] tide up 是动副词短语, “代(词放)中(间)原则”
tidy away “收拾起来”
eg:Tidy away the toys if you don't play with them. 如果你不玩了, 就把玩具收拾起来。
[拓展] “tidy”的其他用法
clean and tidy. “干净又整洁”
eg:The classroom is clean and tidy. 教室里又干净又整洁。
2. Open the door for your guest and hang up his coat.为你的客人开门并帮他挂外套。
hang up “挂起; 挂断电话”
eg:I have hung up my coat. 我已经挂起了我的外套。
Don’t hang up. We must have a talk.不要挂电话, 我们必须得谈谈。
[注意] hang up 是动副词短语, “代(词放)中(间)原则”
hang “悬挂; 吊着”, 过去式、过去分词为:hung
eg:He hung it up after I gave the coat to him. 我把外套给他后, 他挂了起来。
[拓展] “hang”的其他用法
hang out “闲逛”
eg:The local kids hang out at the mall.当地的孩子常在商场闲荡。
hang “绞死”, 过去式、过去分词为:hanged
eg:The robber was hanged yesterday. 那个盗贼昨天被施以绞刑。
3. Offer your guest something to drink or eat liketea, fruit and snacks. 主动给客人拿些像茶、水果、零食之类的东西来吃喝。
offer “(主动)给予;提供;出示”,可以跟宾语或双宾语,能用不定式作宾语,不能用动词-ing形式作宾语。
eg:The company offered him a good job.
那家公司给了他一份好差事。
He offered to lend me lots of money.
他欣然借给了我很多钱。
4. Don't ask your guest to go to the kitchen and serve himself! Serve your guest at the table. 不要让客人亲自进厨房端菜! 你要在饭桌上照顾客人进餐。
serve 在本句中的意思是“伺候进餐; 为端上(或摆出)食物(或饮料等)”。
eg:The waiter served us well when we had dinner in the restaurant last Saturday.
上周六我们在餐馆吃饭时, 那位服务员招待得很好。
Serve tea, please!请上茶!
5. That's why you invited him. 那就是你邀请他的原因。
why在本句中连接表语从句。其他的wh-词也可以这样使用。
eg:This is where the temple used to be. 这就是那座寺庙原来所在的地方。
The question is when he will get there. 问题是他什么时候到那里。
The problem is not who will go but who will stay.问题不是谁去, 而是谁留下。
6. It will be my first time visiting a Russian house.这将是我第一次拜访一个俄罗斯人的家。
time “次, 回”; visiting 前省略了介词 of
序数词 + time (of) doing “第......次做......”
eg:It is his first time visiting Beijing. 这是他第一次访问北京。
It’s their second time seeing the film. 这是他们第二次看那部电影。
[拓展] 表达“是某人第......次做某事”, 还可以用
“It is/was/will be + 序数词 + time that......”
当主句动词为is/will be时, that分句用现在完成时; 主句动词为was时, that分句动词通常用过去完成时, 有时也可用一般过去时, that可省略。
eg:It will be the first time I've spoken in public. 这将是我第一次当众讲话。
It was the first time he had met her. 那是他第一次遇到她。
7. Bring a small gift, such as sweets or flowers.带上一份小礼物, 例如糖果、鲜花之类的东西。
such as 用于列举同类人或物中的几个例子;
for example一般只举同类人或物中的一个为例, 作插入语, 用逗号隔开, 可位于句首、句中或句末。
eg:I bought a lot of fruit, such as apples, pears, bananas and so on. 我买了很多水果, 例如苹果、梨、香蕉等。
There are many kinds of pollution, air pollution, for example. 有多种污染, 例如空气污染。
8. Remember to be yourself and have fun.记着跟平常一样, 玩得高兴。
remember to do sth. “记着做某事(将要做的事)”;
remember doing sth. “记得做过某事”。
eg: Remember to close the windows when you leave. 离开时记着关窗。
I remember telling you the news. 我记得告诉过你那条消息。
be/come to yourself “你的正常情况(指建康、情绪)”
eg:You don't seem (to be) quite yourself today. 今天你好像有些不舒服(或不高兴)。
Why don't you be yourself 你为什么不跟平常一样呢?
Imagine you visited a Canadian friend's house yesterday. Write a short letter to your host.
