living意为“活着的;活的”,可作表语,也可作定语,用作定语时要放在所修饰词的前面。
eg: Alaskan Eskimos believe that every living creature possesses a spirit. 阿拉斯加的爱斯基摩人认为每一个活着的生物都有灵魂。
【辨析】
alive意为“活着的;在世”,既可作表语,也可作定语,用作定语时要后置,即放在所修饰词的后面。
live意为“活的”,一般用作前置定语,多与表示物的名词连用。
lively意为“生气勃勃的;热情活跃的;充满趣味的”。
eg: Who is the greatest man alive

He showed a lively interest in maths.
If we pollute the rivers and oceans, fish may get sick or even die.

【拓展】
die 是非延续性动词,不能与“for + 一段时间”连用。
die of/from 意为“死于”,后接死亡的原因。
die off 意为“相继死去;灭绝”。
eg: We’re all going to die at some point.

If the snowstorm does not blow over, the cattle will die off.
【辨析】
die动词,意为“死亡”,常与表示时间、地点或原因的状语连用。
dead形容词,意为“死的”,表示状态,be dead可与“for+一段时间”连用。
dying die的现在分词,也可用作形容词,意为“将要死亡的”。
death名词,意为“死亡”,常用短语:the death of………的死。
