2. -er, -or, -n, -ese, -ian表示动作的执行者(加在动词后构成名词)、具有某国国籍的人或“从事……的人”(加在名词后,词性不变)。
例如:
run跑→runner奔跑者;visit访问→visitor访问者;
America美国→American美国人;Japan日本→Japanese日本人;music音乐→musician音乐家
后缀
3. -ful表示“充满……的”(加在动词或名词后,构成形容词)。
例如:care小心→careful小心的
4. -tion加在动词后,构成名词。
例如:invent发明→invention发明
注意:通过加前缀或后缀派生而成的新词从词性的变化来看,主要有以下几种情况:
(1)动词(Verb)→名词(Noun)
wait等候→waitress女服务员
build建造→building建筑物
write写→writer作家
(2)名词(Noun)→形容词(Adjective)
cloud云→cloudy多云的
snow雪→snowy下雪的
sun太阳→sunny阳光明媚的
fog雾→foggy多雾的
(3)形容词(Adjective)→副词(Adverb)
slow慢的→slowly缓慢地
happy快乐的→happily快乐地
注意:有些形容词本身也是以-ly结尾的:
friendly友好的 lonely孤独的 lovely 可爱的
转化法
英语中,有的名词可用作动词,有的形容词可用作副词或动词。这种不改变词形,而由一种词性转化为另一种词性的构词方法叫作转化法。
动词转化为名词
1. 动词转化为名词时,意思没有变化:
Eg: Let’s go out for a walk.
2. 动词转化为名词时,意思有一定变化:
Eg: He is a man of strong build.
3. 动词转化为名词时,与一个动词和不定冠词构成短语,表示一个动作:
Eg: Let’s have a swim.
名词转化为动词
很多表示物件、身体部位、某类人的名词可以用作动词来表示动作,某些抽象名词也可作动词。
Eg: Did you book a seat on the plane
Please hand me the book.
She nursed her husband back to health.
We lunched together.
形容词转化为名词
1. 表示颜色的形容词常可转化为名词。
Eg: You should be dressed in black at the funeral.
某些形容词如old, young, poor, rich, wounded, injured等与the连用,表示一类人,作主语时,谓语动词用复数形式。
Eg: The old in our village are living a happy life.
