话题一:温馨故事类:(话题参考2021新高考二卷读后续写)
In 1945, a 12-year-old boy saw a beautiful brooch (胸针)in a shop window that set his heart racing. But the price—five dollars—was too high for Reuben Earle. Five dollars would buy almost a week's food for his family
Reuben couldn’t ask his father for the money. Everything his father made through fishing went to his mother, Dora. Slim and beautiful, she was the center of the home and the glue that held it together. The housework was never-ending, and she struggled to feed and clothe their five children, but she was happy as her family and their well-being were all she cared about.
Nevertheless, he opened the shop's door and went inside. Standing proudly and straight in his flour-sack (面粉袋改做的)shirt and washed-out trousers, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding, “But I don't have the money right now. Can you please hold it for me for some time ”
"I'll try,” the shopkeeper smiled. "People around here don't usually have that kind of money to spend on things. It should keep for a while."
Reuben respectfully touched his worn cap and walked out. He would raise the money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mum would get surprised when she saw that brooch. On hearing the sound of hammering (捶打)from a side street, Reuben suddenly had an idea that he could raise money by selling the used nail bags. People built their own homes in Bay Roberts, using nails bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used bags were thrown away at the construction site, and Reuben knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece. That day he sold two nail bags and hid the money in a rusty soda tin.

Paragraph2:
Finally, the time came!
Every day after school, Reuben started his plan. On his way back home, he made effort to search for nail bags without ignoring every corner of the street. In order to keep the little secret, he cautiously put every coin into the soda tin hidden under his bed, which was regarded as a treasure. Even though sweat streaming on his face, all the Reuben’s tiredness disappeared miraculously whenever he passed by the brooch in the shop. To his delight, his soda tin was filled with more and more coins as time went by. It was the Christmas Eve that approached.
Finally, the time came! After carefully counting the coins again and again, Reuben’s eyes twinkled with excitement. His hard work eventually paid off! Without a second’s delay, he rushed for the shop to purchase the beautiful brooch, which had been waiting for a long time. Receiving such an amazing and valuable gift, Dora’s heart was pounding with wild joy. Speechless, she smiled radiantly and gathered her son into her arms. Well, no dream is out of reach for a willing heart.
话题二:遇险类:
My wife, Kay, looked quite worried as I said goodbye at 6:30 a.m. that Sunday morning in December 1963. Two hours later, I was standing on the cliff at Aldinga Beach, 55 kilometres south of our home in Adelaide, South Australia.
Forty of us—each with black rubber suits and flipper (蛙鞋), glass-windowed face masks, snorkels (呼吸管), lead-weighted belts and spearfishing guns—were waiting for the judge’s 9:00 a.m. whistle to announce that the annual South Australian Spearfishing Championship competition began. We all had five hours to bring the judge a bag of fish. The winner would be determined both by the total weight and by the number of different species.
I was confident because I’d taken the 1961-1962 competition and was returning as the reigning champion.
At the whistle blast we waded (跋涉) into the surf. Each man dragged a float (鱼漂) behind him, attached to his lead-weighted belt. We would attach our fish to these floats immediately on spearing them, hoping their blood wouldn’t attract the always hungry and curious predatory sharks that swim the deeper water off the South Australian coast. Still, as a precaution (预防措施), a patrol (巡逻) boat crossed our hunting area, keeping a lookout.
By 12:30, when I dragged a heavy catch of parrot-fish, snapper, boarfish and magpie perch to the beach, I could see from the other piles that I must be well up in the competition.
Suddenly, something huge hit me with huge force on my left side, pushing me forward with wild speed. I became immediately nervous. The pressure on my body seemed to choke me. I tried to shake myself but found that I was trapped as if in a vise. When my mind came into focus, I realized my predicament (困境): a shark had me in its jaws.
Although shocked with the horror, I still felt no pain. As I pulled my arm loose from the shark’s teeth, I felt pain I could have never imagined. But I had succeeded in freeing myself.

范文:
I knew the shark would come back again. So I spared no effort to swim forward in regardless of the severe pain. Then as I predicted, my knees touched its side. Shaken violently from side to side, I hoped wildly to keep out of its jaws. Pushing away with all my remaining strength, I managed to get back to the surface. When I reached it, the water was red with my blood. Without any hesitation, the shark moving toward me, I was seized by a strong sense of horror.
As the shark prepared to attack again, I put my fish and float in front. Then the shark swallowed the fish and the float instead of me, which seemed a good opportunity for me to escape. When my head reached the surface, all I could scream was “Shark! Shark!”. Hearing my voice, my colleagues pulled me out of the danger. When I came to myself in hospital, Kay said with tears, “You made it, dear.” It was this unique experience that made me understand whatever difficulty we are faced with, we mustn’t give up our hope.
话题三:矛盾争吵类:
Dad and Mom had got to go on a four-day business trip. They taught their elder son Daniel and younger daughter Jane how to feed and look after their dog, Spot, how to take good care of themselves—learning to cook if they could, or ordering pizza—with money left on the table—if they were busy, and told them to keep their rooms clean and tidy. They asked Daniel to be in charge.
On the very morning when the parents left, Mom kissed them and said to Daniel gently, “Young man, do take care of Spot and Jane.” Daniel promised, “I will, Mom.”
Too excited to fall asleep again, Daniel and Jane jumped out of bed, calling out each other to get up. Their pet dog, Spot, heard the similar voice and rushed in, with a ball in its mouth. Jane stuck(伸) her head into Daniel’s room,“Spot got up an hour earlier. Let’s walk it.” Daniel said excitedly, “I’m coming, but, Jane, don’t forget to keep your room clean and tidy.” “I will.”
They ran with the dog in the yard and threw the ball away for Spot to bring it back. They had fun playing with Spot the whole morning. Washing Spot was slow and tiring as it was the first time they had done it. Then Daniel settled down to his homework while Jane did her reading with interest.
The following day, Jane begged her brother to order pizza for lunch. Daniel agreed excitedly, “We haven’t tasted that for long and we behave ourselves, right ”After a while, he added, “We should save money, too.” Within half an hour, they treated themselves to a big pizza. However, in the afternoon, Spot looked sick, lying lazily and unwilling to move. Daniel was concerned about the dog and took it to the pet clinic immediately with Jane as their parents had done.

Paragraph 2:
Daniel ran into his room, with tears in his eyes,“ Jane, there is no need to explain and Mom won’t trust me any longer.”

When Dad and Mom arrived a day earlier, they were amazed to find everything in a mess. Filled with anger, Mom shouted, “Look at what you have done, which really let me down. We left you in charge because of trusting you, but look at the mess. What did you do with the money we left Why does Spot look hungry since the money have been used up ” With so much blame pouring like flood, Daniel was too sorrowful to utter a single word. Jane explained anxiously, “Mummy, Spot is sick, so we spent the rest of the money taking it to the pet clinic.”
Daniel ran into his room, with tears in his eyes, “Jane, there is no need to explain and Mom won’t trust me any longer.” Hearing the little daughter’s words, Dad and Mom understood that the reason why they had no time to clean the house was that they waited for Spot at the clinic all day. Mom regretted acting so angrily before figuring out what happened. She apologized to Daniel sincerely and hugged him in her arms, saying that “I’m so proud of you that you are really growing up into a young man.”
话题四:励志故事
Emily White came to the world 17 years ago, with so many birth problems in her body. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive long. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance.
In her hometown, a yearly outdoor performance was held in the school auditorium(礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town's people.
Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field.
Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens- her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a glance at Amy's body and said, "Child, you are just not suitable. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.”
Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired.
This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Butler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.
Emily didn't want to be rejected again, so she hesitated about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Butler called, “Emily, you're next." Kind of nervous as she was, Emily did as Mr. Butler told her to. Mr. Butler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Butler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.
Emily couldn't sleep that night. She tossed and turned in bed one thousand times. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn't fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain due to stress.

Emily hurried to the school and nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. When her eyes moved upward, she couldn’t believe her eyes. It was her name that was posted at the top of the list unexpectedly. Feeling as if her heart would jump out, a wild excitement took hold of her. While others’ views and responses discouraged her totally. All of a sudden, Mr. Butler’s gentle voice resounded in her ears, “You deserve it, Emily. What we need is just your beautiful singing voice and your ability.” Inspired, Emily practiced even harder for the day of performance.
Finally the day for the performance came. When Emily stood on the stage, her emergence didn’t win the cheers from the audiences, whose whispering made her shake all over instead. Just then, she caught sight of Mr. Butler sitting among the crowd. His encouraging smile and trustful look calmed her down instantly. With the music rising, her singing echoed around the school auditorium, which let others be addicted to the splendid song. When she finished, they burst out applauses for her. Her eyes brimmed with delightful tears, she realized the world would make way for the dreamer, whoever she was.
话题五:人与动物的友谊
The doctors sent my mother home to die. As a fifteen-year survivor of breast cancer, she had suffered two heart attacks when advanced cancer was found in her lung. The doctor told me sadly, "She has a few days, maybe a week. Her heart is weak and unstable. "Mom had struggled to raise three daughters while holding a full-time job, yet worked hard to maintain a warm home for her family. My plan for Mom’s final days was simple: she would live with love, and die with grace.
I took mother to my home, small but comfortable, which was a heaven to four cats and a dog. The animals had the run of my house. We equipped the bedroom with an electric hospital bed and an oxygen machine, which frightened the cats. I’d moved their furniture and the cats were annoyed. The dog, on the other hand, an immature dog with bad habits, was excited by all the changes in the house. He jumped up, barking. He is Otto who was not afraid of the hospital bed, the oxygen machine or the medical smells. Nor was he afraid of the weak woman who had scolded him. Otto jumped onto the foot of Mom's hospital bed, and stayed. With the exception of eating and using the litter box, Otto never left Mom's room.
Days passed and Mom started to rally. “Not unusual,” I was told, “a rally is often a sign of imminent death(回光返照)” I was heart-broken. But Otto would not give her up so easily. He used her improved condition to reposition himself from the foot of her bed to her side. Her thin fingers found his soft coat. He leaned into her body, as if holding tight the strings of her will to live. Though weak, she petted the dog and would not allowed me to take him. Days turned into weeks and Mom continued to fight.
Paragraph 1

Three years later, Mom together with Otto is still here, medicines and nurses long gone. __ _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1: Once, after the nurses had gone for the day, I heard the sound of Mom’s voice coming from her room. To my amazement, she was sitting up to read a book absorbedly with Otto accompanying by her side. Catching sight of such a pleasant scene, I really appreciated that Otto seemed just like a guardian angel who relieved my mom’s suffering. However, things began to change for the better after the tough few days. My mom even could walk using a crutch gradually, followed by Otto. Wherever she moved, Otto would shadow. She found the motivation and purpose to survive from Otto’s companion.
Paragraph 2: Three years later, Mom together with Otto is still here, medicines and nurses long gone. When my refreshed Mom returned to visit the doctor, he couldn’t believe what happened to her. “That’s really a medical miracle!” he said with doubt. “You have recovered so well that I even can’t find your cancer.” It was the selfless love and dependence from Otto that was transformed into the most powerful drug to cure my mom’s physical illness. I really appreciated what Otto had done, which convinced me that we would have longer precious time to spend together.
