2. We were in a hurry.我们很匆忙。
in a hurry 意思是“忙；急于”
eg: I'm in a hurry, I've no time to stay. 我很忙,没时间待了。
be in a hurry to do sth. 匆忙做某事
eg：Don't be in a hurry to succeed.不要急于求成。
[拓展] hurry v. “赶快；匆忙；急忙”
hurry to do sth.= be in a hurry to do “匆忙做某事”
hurry up “赶快；快点”
3. She raced to get it. 她飞快地跑过去拿它。
race在本句中用作不及物动词，意思是“迅跑；疾走”
eg：He raced for the gate. 他疾奔大门而去。
race 还有“参加赛跑”的意思
eg：The rabbit and the tortoise raced to see who first got
to the tall tree. 兔子和乌龟赛跑，看谁先跑到大树那里。
表示“与·······赛跑”，搭配介词against或with.
eg：He has raced against many famous athletes.
他曾跟很多著名运动员赛跑。

4. And the street was icy——the car couldn't stop in time.
街上很滑——汽车没能及时停下来。
in time意思是“及时;迟早”
eg：He is believed to arrive in time. 相信他会及时到达。
Will I be in time for the train 我能及时赶上火车吗？
on time意思是“准时；按时”
eg：The alarm clock awoke me on time. 闹钟准时把我叫醒了。
It was difficult to get this report finished on time. 按时完成这个报告很难。
5. I shouted to the girl.我冲着女孩大喊。
shout意思是“大喊（大叫）”，与介词to,at或for连用。
shout to“冲某人喊”;
eg：Soon,we were both shouting to each other.
不久, 我们俩就相互大喊起来。
shout at“冲某人喊”, 有时含有不礼貌的意味;
eg：The boy is shouting at me loudly.
这个男孩正在大声对我嚷嚷。
shout for “为了......大声喊”
I shouted for help. 我们呼喊着寻求帮助。
6. I wanted to stop her from running after the ball, but she didn't hear me. 我想阻止她去追球，但她没有听见。
run after意思是“追赶; 追踪”
eg：The dog was running after a rabbit. 狗在追一只兔子。
stop... (from) doing sth.意思是“阻止·······做某事”,相当于keep…from doing sth.或prevent…from doing sth.除由keep构成的短语外,其余两个短语中的from均可省略
eg：The farmers planted a lot of trees to stop winds from blowing away the soil.
农民们种了很多树，以防风把土壤刮走。
Zoos can help man to keep animals from going extinct.
动物园可以帮助人类阻止动物灭绝。
Nobody can prevent me from studying. 没人能阻止我学习。
7. He stopped traffic on the road until the ambulance
came. 他拦住了路上的车辆, 直到救护车到来。
until conj.直到……为止, 引导时间状语从句。
[注意]当主句是肯定句时, 其谓语动词必须是延续性动词, 表示这一动作或状态一直延续到until后所表示的时间
eg: I waited until all the workmates left last night.
昨晚我一直等到所有的同事都走了。
当主句是否定句时, 其谓语动词一般是非延续性动词,强调动作是从until所表示的时间才开始。
eg：I didn't know anything about it until the teacher told me.直到老师告诉我，我才知道这件事。
[拓展]until 作介词，后跟名词、副词或介词短语。
eg：I talked with her until one o'clock in the morning.
我和她一直谈到凌晨一点。
8. Ann has a broken leg and an ugly shoulder wound. 安一条腿断了, 肩膀上还有一处可怕的伤口。
ugly在本句中的意思是“难看的; 可怕的”
eg： The soldier has an ugly gash. 那位士兵身上有处难看的伤口。
