prefer (not) to do sth.意为 “宁愿(不)做某事”
eg：I prefer to go shopping this afternoon.我今天下午宁愿去购物。
Language Points
prefer sb.(not) to do sth. 意为“宁愿某人(不)做某事”, 在意义上相当于“would like sb.(not) to do sth.”。
eg：I prefer you not to go to school today. = I would like you not to go to school today.我宁愿你今天不去上学。
prefer＋名词/动词的 ing形式＋to＋名词/动词的 ing形式意为“喜欢……胜过……”
eg：I prefer the quiet countryside to the noisy cities.我喜欢安静的乡村胜过喧闹的城市。
prefer to do sth.rather than do sth.意为“宁愿做……也不愿做……”, 相当于“prefer doing sth.to doing sth.”。
eg：He preferred to stay at home rather than go to the concert with me.他宁愿呆在家里, 也不愿和我去听音乐会。

[拓展] kind构成的短语
a kind of一种, 后跟名词单数 The apple is a kind of fruit.苹果是一种水果。
kind of “有点;有几分”,后跟形容词或副词 They are kind of scared.他们有点害怕。
different kinds of “不同种类的”,后跟名词复数 Different kinds of questions often appear in the exam.考试中经常出现不同种类的问题。
many kinds of “很多种” There are many kinds of books here.这儿有很多种书。
4.At the beginning, I was afraid to try writing a poem.
起初, 我不敢尝试写诗歌。
at the beginning 意思是“开始时, 起初”,
“at” 也可以换成 “in”
eg：They were cheerful in/at the beginning.
开始时, 他们情绪高涨。
try doing 意思是“试着做……”,
eg：Please try doing it in another way.请试着用另一种方法做它。
[辨析] “try doing” 与 “try to do”
try doing 试着做…… I tried turning the key in the lock and the door was opened.
我试着在锁里转动钥匙, 门被打开了。
try to do 努力做…… I tried to move the stone away,but failed.
我努力把石头搬走,但是没搬动。
5. Then my teacher encouraged me to write a humorous poem because I am always saying funny things. 后来, 老师鼓励我写幽默的诗, 因为我总是说一些有趣的事情。
always 副词, 表示“总是; 一直”, 常用于一般现在时, 表示经常性的行为和动作。
[注意] “always” 用于进行时, 表示某种思想、情绪或行为反复发生, 且含有不满、厌恶、烦躁、感叹等感彩。
eg：You are always making troubles!你怎么老找麻烦！
He is always telling lies. 他总是撒谎。
“encourage sb. to do ” “鼓励某人做某事”
eg：Our teacher always encourage us to solve the problem by ourselves. 我们的老师经常鼓励我们独立解决问题。
“encourage sb. not to do ” “鼓励某人不要做某事”
He encourages me not to tell lies. 他鼓励我不要撒谎。
Write A Poem
As a class, think of words that describe things like age, size, temperature, feelings and colour. Then think of words that describe how things move. Make lists of these words on the blackboard. In small groups, ask your groupmates for words to fill in the blanks.
Some lines are easy! You can use only one type of word. For these blanks, say “I need a________．”
Project
In some blanks, you can use two different kinds of words. For these blanks, say “I need either a ________or a ________．”
Some lines have two blanks. For these lines, say “I need both a ________and a ________．”
On a piece of paper, write down a word for each blank. Read the poem to your group.
