Anger often makes us uncomfortable. Seeing your child’s anger can be especially uncomfortable. In order to relieve this feeling, parents often encourage children to “stop crying” and say things like “There’s nothing to cry about.” In fact, parents are just doing what they were taught by their own parents, who were
probably taught that by their parents on and on. However, we should learn how to create healthy anger in our kids.
If a child never sees his or her parents express anger, he or she may never express anger, either. But if parents always express their anger loudly, their child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening.
The first thing you can do to create healthy anger in your children is to practice creating healthy anger in yourself. Once you’re better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to set a good example for your kids.
It’s wrong to stop kids from expressing their feelings. People may feel bad when they believe they are wrong. So, when children express their feelings and are told that there’s nothing to cry about, they come to know that they themselves are bad.
We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling. When your kids express anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry How did it do that Then, you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and show them our expressions of feelings are in our control.
Anger is natural and normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.
( )1. What does the underlined word “frightening”in Paragraph 2 mean

A. parents have a great influence on their children
B. parents should get angry with their children

A
( )3. Parents can set a good example for children by ____.
A. stopping them from expressing their anger
B. expressing their own anger in a healthy way
C. letting them know they are right or wrong
D. raising them in a safe environment
( )4. The writer thinks that anger is a kind of feeling that is always ____.

Some researchers explain how most people form their social groups with people of their age. People make their friends based on distance more than anything else, especially children, teenagers and even adults. Even in a classroom, students may not make friends with those who have similar personalities(性格) and interests. They tend to(倾向于) make friends with people whom they really sit next to. Clearly, those who stay nearest to them have the greatest influence on them.
Over the past ten months, I’ve paid Ryan, a famous writer of several bestselling books, to help me with the book I’m writing. Working with him has shown me how low the standard of my work is. For example, every time I send him a draft(草稿), he shows me how it could be much better, and he holds me to that standard.
It’s not that my working ability was born low. It’s because that I don’t know what I don’t know. Working with Ryan has made
me realize what is possible and what it takes to create something powerful.
Like Ryan, my business partner Richard has wonderful ideas and far more experience than I have. He has written 36 New York Times Bestsellers. Richard always performs at high levels, and he is also very strict with me because my performance is a reflection(反映) on him. It’s not a bad thing because it creates pressure to help me make great progress and push me to learn more.
In a word, you need to stay with those people who can help you realize your level and potential. Staying with people who have higher standards is the fastest way for you to change. If you don’t change your environment, your progress will be very slow. People who you stay with really matter.
( )1. The students are more likely to make friends with _____.
A. the people who have similar personalities
B. the people who have the same interests
C. the people who sit next to them
D. the people who have the same hobbies
( )2. The underlined word “potential” in Paragraph 5 means _____ in Chinese.

A. Ryan helped the writer with the book for free.
B. The writer’s working ability was born low.
C. Richard has wonderful ideas and the same experience as the writer.
D. Staying with those who have higher standards can help us make great progress.

( )4. The writer mainly wants to tell us that _____.
A. we can improve our working abilities by ourselves
B. we must pay attention to our talent and potential
C. we’d better make friends with those who can hold us to higher levels
D. we should stay with those who have similar personalities and interests

Our school’ s science festival just ended a few days ago. What interested me most was the time we spent making a model car. It was made out of corrugated cardboard (瓦楞纸板), but it could still hold a person and move.
We were excited about this idea at the beginning, but we found it hard to make the car. It seemed impossible for a cardboard car to carry someone. Our

physics teacher showed us a video. There was some corrugated cardboard shaped like “A” or “W” in the video, which could hold more weight. It provided us with a good way to make this kind of car with corrugated cardboard.
Because there was not much time left for us, we had to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how the car should be made and how to test it.I was glad that we were able to work with each other.Everyone saw the work as an interesting way to relax. When the car was finally finished, we all had a smile on our faces and found that all our effort was worth it.

We joined the competition after we finished the car. Though we didn’t win any prizes, we found something more meaningful than success. We learned some knowledge about physics and learned how to get along with each other.
