Scan the passage Blogging Australia quickly and find the sentences containing “-ing” form and meanwhile think of the functions of it.
I discovered blogging and found that I took pretty good pictures. So I decided to post pictures on my blog. In less than 18 months, there were over 200,000 people reading my blog!

现在分词作定语更简洁,定语从句做定语更正式。
Warnings:
分词的完成时不可作定语
在message letter sign news notice等词后要用现在分词作定语
若被修饰的代词为those, something, everything, nothing等,则现在分词要放在其后。
某些现在分词作定语时 已不再表示动作 已经从分词变为了形容词词性

这些也可以属于现在分词作定语 但是不能转化为相应的定语从句 ,可以有三级变化(原级 比较级 最高级)和被某些副词如very修饰
Rewrite the underlined words using the -ing form.
The Bernina Express follows a route running (that runs) from Eastern Switzerland to Northern Italy. People travelling (who travel) aboard the Bernina Express have the chance to see incredible views. The landscape lining (that lines) the route is beautiful and dramatic, with snowy mountains and green valleys. There is no doubt that the Bernina Express is a journey for travellers wanting (who want) to get back to nature: the train window becomes the TV screen, and the natural world is the show.
Rewrite the advertisement using the -ing form to make it more compact(紧凑) and coherent(连贯).

现在分词表示所修饰的名词的动作,与所修饰的名词具有逻辑上的主谓关系,即现在分词相当于所修饰名词的谓语。
动名词表示所修饰名词本身的属性,用来说明该名词的用途,不表示名词本身的动作。
现在分词: a barking dog一只正在叫唤的狗;a flying bird一只正在飞的鸟
动名词: a waiting room 候车室;a sleeping bag睡袋

动名词短语不能作定语,单个分词和分词短语都可作定语,单个分词一般作前置定语,分词短语则作后置定语,相当于一个定语从句。
如:the man visiting China=the man who is visiting China 访中的那个人。
V-ing 作表语时
动名词作表语放在系动词之后,用来泛指某种动作或行为,以说明主语的具体 内容(身份、性质或情况);
Her hobby is painting. (动名词) 她的业余爱好是画画。
Our greatest happiness is serving the people.(动名词)
我们最大的幸福是为人民服务。
现在分词作表语表示主语所具有的特征、性质和状态。
The film we saw last night is quite moving. 我们昨晚看的电影十分动人。
His words are encouraging. 他的话很鼓舞人。
常用来作表语的现在分词有astonishing, amusing, confusing, disappointing, boring, encouraging, inspiring, moving, tiring, interesting, surprising等。
V-ing 作表语时
提示:(1)动名词作表语和主语是等值关系,两者有时可以互换,句子意思不变;动名词后面可以接宾语、状语。
Her hobby is painting.
(2)现在分词作表语和主语不是对等关系,现在分词后面不能接宾语,但它前面可以有修饰性的副词,如very, rather等。
