Module 2 Experiences
Unit 3 Language in use.
I Part One : Analysis of the teaching material
1. This is the third lesson for this module, and it’s an important part to get clear about the new words and ideas about experiences in this module. It’s really necessary for the students to know the topic about experiences all by themselves. At the same time, we should also focus on the new tense——the present perfect tense to get ready for a passage to introduce their own experiences.
2. It’s a common topic for the composition in the exams to talk about travelling experiences. So it’s also necessary for the students to learn to accumulate this topic for writing.
II Part Two: Analysis of the students
This is a reading lesson in Grade 8, and they have learnt a lot about travelling before. They can understand many words and sentences. And they can express some easy ideas with their oral English.
So in this lesson, I just want to lead the students make full use of what they’ve learnt and lead them to make a presentation and introduce their travelling experiences.
III Part Three: Teaching aims and demands
1. Knowledge aims:
To know some words about experiences, such as ever, enter, competition, first prize, dream, afford, invite, send, way, mix, miss, count down.
2. Ability aims:
To learn to use the new learnt words and ideas to make a presentation and try to prepare the ideas for writing.
3. Emotion aims:
To know different places of interests and love travelling.
4. Important points:
To learn the new words and phrases.
To express ideas with the new words and phrases.
To gain ideas about travelling experiences for writing.
5. Difficult points:
To use a presentation to summarize the words and ideas which can be prepared for writing.

Part Four: Teaching procedures and ways
1. Leading in. Listening and watching.
Show the short video in Module 2 Unit 1. Ask the students to review the content and pay attention to the sentences with the present perfect tense——How to ask about others’ experiences and how to introduce their own experiences.
Ask some of the students to underline the sentences on the blackboard and lead the others to read.
【Intention】To lead in today’s topic and make the students to pay attention the new learnt tense. Then try to imitate them and make their own ones. Later we can put the sentences together to make up a short passage to introduce their experiences. It’s also the main topic for students to think about in the whole lesson and it’s also the homework for the lesson.
2. Listening and speaking.
According to the text, make some sentences and make a questionnaire to ask others’ experiences about what they have done.
Then play a game:
All the students stand up. Let students give questions one by one. If you have the same experience, you can stand up. If not, please sit down. The last standing one will get a present.
Eg: —Have you ever seen the sunrise
—Yes, I have. / No, I haven’t.
【Intention】To lead in the new words and the topic. They can also practise making sentences with the new learnt words, phrases and tense. It’s also a short dialogue.
3. Writing.
Finish the postcard to tell Rob’s experiences in Beijing according to the hints. If you haven’t been to Beijing, you can just finish the passage first or you can make it up. If you have been to Beijing before, you can try to add something else.
【Intention】To get to know the structure of a postcard. To imitate and write a short passage and get ready for their own passages about travelling experiences.
4. Writing and presentation.
Look at some pictures. I have prepared 10 bags with some pictures and some hints in them. Choose one of them and try to write or make up a passage about your travelling experiences according to the hints you choose.
There are six groups in the class. Each group chooses one bag and they can prepare together. Later they can make a presentation in front.
I will take some videos about their group work. Then I will send videos onto the Internet. The group which will get the most praise will win a prize.
【Intention】To talk about the travelling experiences further and make a presentation to summarize the ideas for writing.
6. Homework:
① To finish the passage you write in the class.
② There are still four bags which are not chosen. You can try to choose one and finish writing.
