主语+谓语+ that/whether/ if +宾语从句
概念:在句子中起_______作用的句子叫宾语从句。

1. 由that引导的宾语从句
当宾语从句是陈述句时,用that引导,that无词义,
在从句中不充当成分,
在口语和非正式文体中常常省略。
He said (that) he missed us very much.
Object Clauses with that
that在宾语从句中的省略与保留
在主+谓+it (形式宾语)+宾补+that从句(真正宾语)的句型中,不能省略。
We all thought it a pity that the conference should have been cancelled.
b. 由连词and 连接的两个由that 引导的宾语从句中,
第二个 that 不能省略。
Everybody could see what happened and that Tom
was frightened.
每个人都知道发生了什么事,汤姆很害怕。
c. 由that 引导的宾语从句中,作except、 in、but等介
词的宾语时 , that 不能省略。
I know nothing about him except that he is from the
south.

d. 由that 引导的宾语从句放在句首起强调作用时,
that 不能省略。
That he ever said such a thing I didn't believe.

2. 由if/whether引导的宾语从句
当宾语从句的语义相当于一个一般疑问句时,常用
if/whether引导,表示“_______”,二者可以换用。
if/ whether在句中不充当句子成分,但不能省略。
The fisherman wants to know whether/if it will rain.
渔民想知道是否会下雨。

二者在以下情况不能互换:
◆ whether之后紧跟or not时, 不可与if互换。
I don’t know whether or not it will rain tomorrow.
◆ 在介词后只能用whether, 不能用if。
He worries about whether he hurts her feeling.
◆ 与动词不定式连用时, 只能用whether, 不能用if。
My brother can’t decide whether to go or to stay.
if and whether 的区别
二者在以下情况不能互换:
◆ 宾语从句的谓语动词是否定形式时,只能用if。
I want to know if he won’t come here tomorrow.
◆ if 可以引导条件状语从句,意为“假如;如果”,
whether 没有此用法。
If he goes on a field trip tomorrow, I’ll call you.
如果他明天要去实地考察,我就给你打电话。

无论主句是陈述句还是疑问句,
