I. While task Show two pictures and teach the new words and phrases: a cigarette end; injured Ask the students read the contents on page 78 and answer the following questions: 1). Many, many years ago, what did people use to start a fire 2). What did they use fire to do 3). Today, what do people use fire to do in their homes 4). What do factory workers use fire to do 5). What kind of people usually cause hill fires 6). What may happen if people are not careful with fire Let the students do pair work: one ask the question and the other answer it. Ask the students to read the questions and answers together. Play the cassette; let the students listen and repeat the text and read it together. Ask the students to close their books and try to retell the text according to the questions and answers on the blackboard. Look at the pictures and learn the new words and phrases Read the text on page 78 and try to find out the answers to the questions on the blackboard Do the pair work Read the questions and answers together. I. While task Let the students have a revision about the last class by filling the blanks Ask the students “What should we do when there is a big fire ” to lead in “We should dial 119 and call the firemen. By asking “Can firemen put out fires just with their hands ” to lead in some tools. Teach the new words (different tools) Show the picture of a hose, ask the students “What does a fireman use a hose to do ” give the two sentences: A fireman uses a hose to put out fires. A hose is used to put out fires. “use sth. to do” and “be used to do” Practice the use of the two phrases according to the other three pictures. Let the students to do pair work like this: S1: What does a fireman use … to do in a fire S2: He uses ... / … is used to … Play the cassette, ask the students to listen and repeat the text and read it together. Let the students do an interview. Four people in one group. One should be the fireman, and the other three should be the reporter. Review what they have learnt in the last class.
