Module task: make a poster about friendship
Analysis of teaching material: The teaching material is from NSE 8B,Module 9, Unit3 Language in use. The topic of this model is about friendship, which is meaningful and interesting for students to learn and share. Unit 1 is a dialogue about Lingling asking Helpline for help because she has a problem with her best friend. Unit 2 is a friendship story called a beautiful smile. Zhangbei, a 13-year-old girl at a new school, felt lonely and afraid, later became best friends with a girl and felt the touch of something bright and lively because of the girl's smile. In Unit 3, most of the grammar exercises are about object clauses with if, weather, who, what, why, where. Also, there's a listening material about the problem that Charlie and Sam's long-lasting friendship is coming to an end and 3 pieces of advice for the problem are offered. The module task is to make a poster about friendship. Students should work in groups, make a list of important things about friendship, then make choices, and give reasons why they choose them. Last but not least, students will write about their own experiences and opinions about friendship, and draw some pictures to make a friendship poster.
Analysis of students:In the previous module, Module 8, students have learned object clauses with that. In Module 9 Unit 1, students have learned object clauses with if, weather, who, what, why, where and when in the content of analyzing problems in a friendship and giving related suggestions. In Module 9 Unit 2, students have learned to focus on the five Wh- questions when reading the friendship story a beautiful smile, make an outline of the story, and differentiate facts and opinions. In the writing period of Unit 2, students are required to write a passage about someone or something that has changed their life, which paves the way for sharing friendship experiences and opinions in the lesson of Unit 3.
Teaching objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:write experiences and opinions about friendship and draw pictutes that represent the most important things in their friendship in order to make a friendship poster;predict, listen and get the imformation about Charlie’s problem in his friendship,give possible suggestions and tell reasons;read and undersatnd the outline of Charlie and Sam’s friendship experiences and analyze the important things as well as the most important thing in their friendship;work in groups and discuss more important things in students’ own friendship experiences and show their opinions meanwhile realizing how important a friendship is;use object clauses in speaking and writing under the real context in a communicative way.
Teaching focus:The teaching focus is that after discussion, students will make a friendship poster by writing experiences and opinions about friendship.
Anticipated difficulties: Students may find it difficult to use object clauses correctly in speaking and writing, so in the work-sheet before class, students are required to do some exercises about object clauses.
Teaching methods: Task-based method.

Steps/ Timing Purpose
Pre-class assignment:Before the class, students finish the quiz about what kind of friends they are.Students do some exercises about object clauses with if, how and so on. Students write some opinions about what a good friend is likeand share their experiences. It aims to review object clauses and get students prepared for the language use of the topic friendship.
Step 1. Doing a survey (3 minutes)The teacher does a survey about how many students choose mostly A, B or C, then shows students if they are a good friend and what kind of friends they are. It aims to tell students the results and let them reflect on their roles in the friendship.
Step 2. Lead-in (3 minutes)The teacher invites students to make a big poster for International Day of Friendship and brainstorm how to make a poster. It aims to create a real context for making a friendship poster and introduce the 3 factors: pictures, experiences and opinions.
Step 3. Step 5. Discussion (5 minutes)Students discuss: What is important in a friendship Then the teacher make a summary of her understaning of friendship: A good friend often makes me feel happy. He can reach for my hand and inspire me when I face challenges. He can excuse me if I make mistakes and be with me whenever I need. It aims to provide students a chance for sharing their own understanfing about friendship, including opinions and experiences.
