Lesson 15: A Present for Li Ming

Tenching Material Analysis
This period is from Unit 3. This Unit is mainly talking about family celebrations and size. In this lesson, we will learn to talk about buying presents, and using some phrases properly. At the same time, the situation is close to the real life. So this lesson is very important in this unit.
II. Tenching Aims
a. Students can learn and use the new words correctly: size, fit, anyway, style.
b. Students can learn and use the new phrases correctly: what size, the same as, try on, fit..well
and the sentences: What size do......wear What can I do for you Does it fit
c. Students can learn how to ask the size and get to know how to send a proper present.
III. Teaching Emphasis
a. To know the new words and phrases.
b. To get the important sentences and practise them well.
c. To practise the ability of situational communication.

Encourage students to speak up and talk about shopping for a gift.

Ⅶ. Teaching Procedure
Step1: Warm-up
Students can get some presents from the box and try on a real shirt.
The purpose: Students can experience getting a real gift and talk in situation, so they can practise listening and speaking. At the same time, they can get the answers of the considering things for buying clothes. It will let students be positive and arouse their interests.
Step2: New words
Present: size, fit, anyway, style
The teacher can show the word card and let students read following it. At the same time, let students pay attention to the pronunciation of /i/ /ai / /ei/.
The purpose: Students can know how to read the new words and get the meanings of
them. What’s more, they can practise by speaking some sentences and the words from the pictures.

Step3: Present the new passage
1. Listen to the passage and try to answer some questions.
2. Read the passage by yourself and fill in the blanks.
3. Read the passage in roles.
The purpose: Students can know more details about the passage and it can practise their reading abilities.
4. Language points
(1) What size does your friend wear (What size)
Teacher: --What size does Li Ming wear
Students: ----Large.
Teacher:---What size does Jenny wear
Students:----Medium.
Teacher:----What size does Danny wear
Students:----Small.
I think he’s the same size as Brian. (the same..as)
----The shirt is the same size as that one.
(3) Try on this jacket please. Does it fit (try on; fit..well)
----Try on the shoes/Try the shoes on before you buy them.
----The new shirt fits him very well.
The purpose: Students can learn how to use the important phrase" what size" " the
same as " " try on " " fit...well " and the sentence " What size do you wear " " Does it fit " What’s more, these examples are from their real life, so they can use what they have learned. In this way, it is easy for students to learn grammar.

1. Listen to the dialogues and tick the correct answers.
2. Work in pairs.
Teacher:----pretend you want to buy something for your mother’s or your father’s birthday. What will you buy
Students:---- A scarf/ dress/T-shirt.
Teacher:----Let’s watch a video and try to imitate this conversation. What’s more, you should pay attention to the people’s body languages.
Students:----OK.
Teacher:----Let’s start the conversation with your partner and you can use the sentences on the blackboard.
The purpose: Students can practise the conversation by using the important sentence
pattern and talk in situation. Moreover, they can do the team work and speak up in front of all the classmates. It will encourage them to be better.
Step6: Emotional edification
Students can look at the pictures of the flood disaster happening in Henan and then think about these people’s need.
The gift is trifling, but the feeling is profound. Maybe the gift is not expensive but they really need.
The purpose:Students can know hew to send a proper gift for the people.
Step 7: Homework
1. Review the words and phrases.
2. Make up a dialogue to talk about buying a present for your friends and write it down.

X. Teaching Reflection
In this lesson, I have finished most of my teaching aims. Students learned the new words by listening and imitating the tape. They get the language points by speaking and using these phrases to make sentences. Then, the students take part in many activities, so it helps them to know how to cooperate with others and finish the situational conversation. Last but not least, from the flood disaster news in Henan, the students can get to cherish their happy life and understand how to choose a proper gift for people.
But there are also some disadvantages. Most of the students can take part in the class, but some of them aren't active in the group activities. I think I should try to pay more attention to every student next time. And I should add some activities for writing.
