The Beijing Sunshine Secondary School students are planning a visit for British exchange students coming to their school. Do part A and B to activate students’ ideas about what people can do in their community. 2. Ask a few very general questions about whether they like the places or have visited them. Ask Ss to bring in some pictures of places they have already visited or wish to visit. Ss prepare four statements about their choice of attraction, e.g., where it is, when it is open, what you can do there and what they like most about it. Explain the context. The exchange Ss want to visit the Palace Museum. Ask some general questions about the Palace Museum. Tell them that we stress important words. Sentence stress is the music of spoken English. Like word stress, sentence stress can help you to understand spoken English, especially when spoken fast.Sentence stress is what gives English its rhythm or "beat". You remember that word stress is accent on one syllable within a word. Sentence stress is accent on certain words within a sentence. 2. Say a few simple sentences which Ss know well. Ask Ss how many ‘beats’ they can hear. First, say a number of sentences with one, two and three stressed words, Then say the words in a random order and ask SS to call out what they hear. Take Ss through the examples in Part A for reference. Ask Ss to listen to the recording and write what they hear for the sentences in Part B. If the class seems unsure, play the recording a second time. Ss check their answers with a partner. Go through them quickly and identify problems with particular sentences. If there is a pattern, then explain again, giving comparative examples to illustrate the differences. Ask Ss to say the list of sentences in chorus. Give them more sentences to practise with claps.
