As a child he studied in a primary school in his hometown and later he dropped out of school for some reasons and worked as a farmer for many years. Yan began to write at young age.

Why do you like him / her and what do you learn from him / her
I like Mo Yan because his books make me feel the power of life and value of freedom. It makes me love my present life better. He has also set a good example to us and we all admire him very much.
In 1981 his novel Red Sorghum was published and later it was made into a film director by Zhang Yimou. In 2012, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. I have just finished reading Red Sorghum. The story is about “my” grandfather and grandmother's love. I’ll read it again when I have time. It is really good, so I can’t put it down.
