Beijing is one of the four ancient cities of China (together with Xi'an, Luoyang and Nanjing). Beijing city covers a total area of 16,807.8 sq. km. Beijing is located in the north of China. The current population of Beijing according to the 2010 census, as reported by the official Chinese Government statistics agency, was 19,612,368. As early as 700,000 years ago, Peking Man lived in Zhoukoudian area of this city. Beijing weather features four distinct seasons - short windy spring, long hot summer, cool pleasant autumn, and long chilly winter.
