old表示“……年龄的,……岁的”时,常与year(s)连用,即“基数词+year(s) old”。基数词大于1时,year要用复数形式,有时基数词后的years old也可省略。对年龄提问常用how old,意为“多大年龄;几岁”。

(1)old用作形容词,还可译为“年老的”,其反义词为young,意为“年轻的”。例如:
There is an old man over there. 那边有一位老人。
(2)old还可译为“旧的;破的”,其反义词为new,意为“新的”。例如:My bike is old. This bike is new.

(1)how many用于询问可数名词的数量,后接可数名词复数,意为“多少”。例如:
How many desks are there in your classroom
你们教室里有多少张课桌?
(2)“There be+某物/人+地点.”表示“某地有某物/人”。
[注意] be动词的数应该和它后面的名词保持一致,当be动词后有两个或两个以上的名词时,be的形式则和第一个名词的数保持一致。例如:
There is a pen and two books on the desk.
