当把一个人介绍给另一个人时，常用“This is…”句型，不用“He is…”或“She is…”。this常指代距离较近的人或物，与其相对的词是that。它们可单独使用，也可用来修饰名词。介绍距离较远的人或物时用“That is…”。this is不能缩写为this's，that is可缩写为that's。

her是形容词性物主代词，意为“她的”，不能单独使用，其后必须接名词。

her还可译为“她”，是人称代词的宾格形式，在句中用在动词或介词之后作宾语。其人称代词的主格形式为she，意为“她”，在句中作主语。例如：
She is a good girl. We all like her.
她是一个好女孩。我们都喜欢她。
