Step 1. Lead -in Start the class by introducing a robot calledJibo, one of the amazing inventions in 2017,and the first family robot in the world. Arouse students’ interests in this lesson
Step 2.Warming-upActivities(Free talk) Before showing the video which introduces the robot, advice students to listen carefully and catch the key words about the usage of the robot. After finishing watching the video, instruct students to talk about what they heard. Through warming-up activities, lead the students to come to the main topic---science affects us. T: Do you like science Why S: ...................(show their ideas on science) Add the English atmosphere into the class by using a lively video , and offer students a chance to practice listening skills, what’s more, let students realize that science has a big influence on our life. Step3Learning Part I of the text Fast-reading. At first, instruct students to look through Jenny’s e-mail quickly to solve the following questions:①what tools does Jenny prepare for the experiment ②What can we discover from the experiment Careful reading Let students read the e-mail loudly , and then discuss in groups to work out the two questions:①What happens in the experiment ②How does Jenny do the experiment (steps)At last, put forward a new question: what will happen if we use a ping-pang ball instead of the cardboard Let students predict the result.
