Teaching aims:
By the end of this lesson, the students are expected to be able to:
1. know more about Alice in Wonderland
2. use the key words and expressions to express their own ideas.
3. write about a possible way of how Alice got through the door.
4. feel the beauty and the imagination of the English fairy tale.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in
Ask students to watch a piece of the film Alice in wonderland and arouse Ss’ interest in reading more about the story.
Step 2 Presentation & practice
Present the phrases sit by the river and pass by by revising Paragraph 1-2.
Teach the use of by in the two phrases with some examples.
Tell students more meanings of by with some sentences.
Step 3 Presentation & practice
Present the phrase see sb. doing sth by completing the table.
Ask Ss to work out the meaning of see sb. doing sth..
Ask Ss to make some sentences with the picture and the video.
Step 4 Presentation & practice
Present the words surprise, surprising and surprised by making a dialogue.
Practice using the words surprise, surprising and surprised by completing a short passage.
Step 5 Presentation & practice
Ask students to put the sentences into the correct order after reading paragraph3-4.
Ask Ss to tell the meaning of the verb or verb phrases fall ,hit, stand up, run across..after, jump down.
Ask Ss to retell the story with the words on the blackboard.
Step 6 Presentation & practice
Present the phrase find herself alone by revising the story.
Practice using the phrase find sb./sth. +adj.
Step 7 Presentation & practice
Complete the table after revising paragraph 4-5.
Teach the words locked, fit and the phrases go through
Finish the exercises about across and through
Step 8 Consolidation
Ask students to read the story and find out the verbs or verb phrases in the text.
Let students feel the beauty of the language.
Ask students to work in groups and continue the story with imagination
