Topic: 7B Unit 8 Pets Comic strip & Welcome to the unit
Analysis of the teaching material
This piece of teaching material is from Oxford English 7B Unit 8 Pets. This is the beginning part of this unit. It consists of 3 parts: Comic strip, guess the words about pets, and talk about their favorite pets and the reasons. The topic is pet, which is not difficult for the students, and they are very familiar with it. After learning, the students will learn some names of pets and have the ability of talking about their favorite pets and the reasons.
Analysis of the students
The students I will teach are from Grade 7. They are very active in class. They are interested in the topic of pets. They are willing to take part in the activities in class. Besides, the students in my class have good abilities of English. Therefore, various kinds of activities in class are necessary to activate the students’ passion of learning English.
Teaching Aims
1. Knowledge aims
a. Enable the students to learn the words about pets, such as: parrot, rabbit, mouse, goldfish.
b. Help the students learn the words and phrases of talking about pets’ appearance and characteristic.
2. Ability aims
a. Help the students know the appearance and the habitat of some pets.
b. Help the students talk about their favorite pets and tell the reasons.
3. Emotional aims
a. Help the students love pets and be kind to pets.
b. Help the students know the importance of protecting animals and think about some ways of protecting them.
Teaching Important Points
1. Help the students know some names of pets and their habitat.
2. Encourage the students to talk about their favorite pets and tell the reasons.
Teaching Difficult Points
1. How to help the students learn the names of pets.
2. How to help the students talk about the reasons of their favorite pets.
Teaching strategies
1. A video about pets is shown at the beginning of the class to help the students feel relaxed about the class.
2. Competition games are used to help the students consolidate the names of pets they have just learnt.
3. A survey about their favorite pets aims to help the students say something about their group members’ favorite pets.

Teaching Procedures
Step1 Lead-in
Show the students a video whose title is “Do you have a pet ” After watching the video, ask the students to answer the following questions:
(1) How many pets are there in the video
(2) What does the video talk about
Step2 Presentation
1. Memory checking. Show the students a picture which has many pets. Give them 3 seconds. Ask them to tell what kind of animals they can see in the picture.
2. Present these pets. Pay attention to the plural forms of these words.
Step3 Consolidation
1. Ask the students to complete Part A1 in their books. Check their answers.
2. Game: Give the students some descriptions of pets. Ask them to guess what they are. Tell the answers as quickly as possible.
Step4 Presentation
Show Daniel and his classmates’ favorite pets. Tell the reasons with the help of some pictures. Teach some new words and phrases about the pets’ habitat and characteristics. Write them on the Bb.
Step5 Survey
Work in groups of 4. Do a survey about their group members’ favorite pets. Write the reasons. Each group will have a reporter to present.
Step6 Comic strip
Play the tape of Comic strip. Ask the students to answer some question:
(1) What does Eddie want Hobo to do
(2) Is Hobo happy Why
Step7 Discussion
1. Encourage the students to think about: Can we be rude to pets
2. Tell them that there are some people in the world who are rude to pets and animals. Show them these pictures. Work in pairs. Encourage them to discuss this: What can we do for pets and what can we do to protect animals
3. Show the students some pictures in which people are kind to animals. Help the students know the importance of protecting animals and make them know we should be kind to pets and animals.
Homework
Work in groups of 4. Make a poster to introduce their favorite pets.

Teaching Reflection
The students can complete the tasks I designed during the class. And the tasks I designed are all about the teaching aims and teaching important and difficult points. However, I speak a little fast, and some of the students can’t follow me well. Besides, the language I used is a little complex. Next time, I should use more simplified language to help the students understand me easily.
