Analysis on teaching materials The topic of this unit is “Pets”. In this period, we will learn the names of some pets and their characteristics. Students may know the different habits of some pets.
Analysis on learners The seventh grade students have known some lovely animals. They will be very interested in this topic They can learn more words and knowledge by taking part in different class games and exchanging the information they have got.
Teaching objectives 1.To introduce pets, including their looks, food, lifestyle, characteristics, etc.2.To talk about the reasons why students like their favorite pets.
Teaching strategies 1. Use pictures and sounds to talk about different pets.2. Consolidate the topic by practicing and dubbing dialogues.3. Improve spoken English by free talk about pets.

Step 1:Warm-up 4 min 1.Teacher ask:Do you like animals Do you have pets at home Interview several students about the pets they like or have.2.Play the sounds and let students guess which pets they are. Have a free talk on the pets students like or have.Listen to sounds from different pets and speak out the names of pets. .Warm up students’ ears and brains. Help them review different pets they’ve known
Step 2:Presentation 6 min 1. Game One: Touch your courageSome pets are lovely but others are ugly or dangerous. Are you brave enough to touch the pets in a mystical box 2. Game Two: Open up your eyesWatch part of the photo and guess which pets it is about.. 1.Touch the pet and learn to describe how it feels and what its legs or tail are like.52.Catch the key words and get the target information on the pet. Arouse the interest and attention of learning by taking part in two guessing games. Vivid pictures are very useful for students to understand the new words.
Step 3:Practice 13 min 1.Part A:Look at the parts of the pictures about six kinds of pets.2.Part B:Some students like you are talking about why they like their pets. Read and match the two parts in B. 3. Part C:Make up a puzzle on one pet. 1. Write the names of the pets under the six pictures in Part A. Then read the words together. 2. Take an active part in the class activity and talk about their own favorite pets.3. List key words about one pet on students’ own iPads, including its looks, food, hobbies, characteristics, etc. Consolidate the names of pets they have learned.Train the skills of listening, speaking and writing.
Step 4:Comics 8 min 1.Introduce the puzzle on my pet and introduce students’ old friend, Eddie and Hobo.2.Show the cartoons for students and ask students to answer two questions below.—What does Eddie ask Hobo to do —Is Eddie very polite to his pet, Hobo 3.Let Ss read and practice the dialogue in pairs. Watch the cartoons carefully and answer the questions. Read the dialogue and try to act it out in pairs.Think more:Eddie is Hobo’s master. What can we learn from Eddie and Hobo Make students understand such a rule:Masters and pets should be polite to each other. They are equal.
Step 5:Product 7 min Watch a video on ‘Do you have a pet ’ The main characters are Kiki, Sue and Paul.Introduce the dubbing task. Group work:Download the video from our English platform. Dub the dialogue among Kiki, Sue and Paul in groups.One member is the announcer, and the others are dubbing actors or actresses. As a seventh grade student, we should give them enough time to practice reading and speaking English and give them more chances to act or show themselves.
Step 4:Summary 5 min Organize an online voting focusing on ‘Do you want to keep a pet at home ’Show the percentage in class and then interview some voters. Vote online.Explain the specific reasons for their own choices, yes or no. Consolidate the knowledge they have learned and practice their eloquences.Tell students that No matter whether they want to keep a pet or not, they mustn’t hurt it forever.
Step 5:Homework 1 min Arrange today’s homework. Search for more informationabout pets on the Internet, including English songs, poems, stories, films, etc. Advise students to learn more about pets by making good use of the Internet.
