【教学目标】
1．To learn the usage of the English dictionary.
2．To know the words in a dictionary are in alphabetical order.
3．To be able to find words in the dictionary quickly.
【教学重难点】
To know how to look up the dictionary quickly.
【教学过程】
Step One Revision
1．Translation
2．Sentence transformation
Step Two Presentation
1．Listen to ABC song and sing together
2．Fill in the blanks according to the sequence of the letters.
3．English words are all made up of letters. Tell Ss to write some words beginning with “a” and “b”.
4．Find the words in the dictionary and write down the page numbers.
5．Discuss: Which word comes first Which one comes next Why
6．The words in a dictionary are in alphabetical order from A to Z .This helps us find the words quickly.
7．Look at the words on the blackboard .Because “a” comes before “b” in alphabetical order, all the words beginning with “a” comes before the words beginning with “b”.in a dictionary.
8．Discuss: If two words start with the same letter, what should we do
If the first two letters are the same, what should we do
If the first three letters are the same, what should we do
Step Three Practice
1．Put the words in Part A1 in alphabetical order and write down the numbers 1-8 in the blanks.
2．Have a competition. (Who can find the words in the dictionary fastest )
3．Do you see the word in the top corner of each page That’s the guide word．Guide words tell us the first and the last words on a page in a dictionary. They tell us whether the word we want is on the page or before or after it. Guide words can help you find the correct page quickly.
4．Now let’s learn how to use the guide words. Look at Part B. On the left are some page numbers and guide words from a dictionary. Write down the page numbers for the words on the right.
