What is a poem
A poem is expressive language written
in verse form (arranged in lines). Each word is carefully chosen, so it is also an economical way to express ideas.
Let’s enjoy some Chinese poems which are translated into English.
Fishing in Snow
By Liu Zongyuan
From hill to hill no bird in flight;
From path to path no man in sight.
A lonely fisherman afloat
Is fishing in lonely boat.

柳宗元
千山鸟飞绝,
万径人踪灭。
孤舟蓑笠翁,
独钓寒江雪。
Night Thoughts
By Li Bai
I wake, and moonbeams play around my bed,
Glittering like hoar-frost to my wandering eyes;
Up towards the glorious moon I raise my head,
Then drop my head – and thoughts of home arise.
Night Thoughts
By Li Bai
In front of my bed the moonlight is very bright.
I wonder if that can be frost on the floor
I lift up my head and look at the full moon, the dazzling moon.
I drop my head, and think of the home of old days.
静夜思
李 白
床前明月光,
疑似地上霜。举头望明月,低头思故乡。

They didn’t call me Hi.
And I would really like to know
Why they didn’t call me Lo.
