3. develop some reading skills (prediction, skimming, scanning….)
4. learn how to introduce a place.
5. have the awareness of protecting the environment and love their hometown more.
Key points and difficult points:
1. Help Ss develop their reading ability (How to get proper information quickly).
2. Help Ss learn to introduce their hometown.
3. How to get all the Ss involved and organize the group work effectively.

Problem Solution
1 How can all the Ss be active in class activities Activities need to be carefully designed and well organized and clear instructions and guidance should be given to Ss, so as to let them know what to do easily.
2 Ss may feel nervous because I am new to them and there are some other teachers sitting behind. Encourage them to do pair work or group work so that they can help each other to get confidence.

2 New-word teaching Help Ss learn the new words with pictures and in proper situations. T-Ss 6 mins 1. Show some pictures about Maanshan and teach the new words in a proper situation.2. Use a game called memory challenge to help Ss remember these new words better.
3 Context Give Ss a fictional situation to get some information smoothly. T-Ss 1 min T: I have a pen friend called Julia who is an English teacher in Sunshine Town. Last night she sent an e-mail to me and said to me “Welcome to Sunshine Town—a great new town.”
4 Prediction Prediction can help Ss have a clear view of a passage. Pair- work 3 mins Show some pictures of Sunshine Town to help Ss predict something about the passage. What’s more, pictures can help Ss get proper information about the passage.
5 Skimming To lead Ss to get the main idea of the passage. Individual work﹠pair work 5 mins 1. Ask Ss to read the headings in the article and check if their predictions are correct.2. Give them a question: what’s the text about ( Multiple choices) and teach them a reading skill—title and the first paragraph usually tell us the main idea.
6 Scanning To lead Ss to find out more details about Sunshine Town. individual work, pair work﹠group work 15 mins 1. Match the broken sentences.2. Some true or false statements.3. Encourage Ss to complete a flow chart.
7 Activity To get Ss to learn how to introduce a place. Group work 10 mins 1. Give Ss a context: Julia will come to your hometown, would you like to introduce your hometown to her 2. Ask Ss to work in groups. Some words, phrases and patterns they’ve learnt in this period will be given as a scaffolding.3. Ask several groups to show themselves.
8 Summary To consolidate what they have learned. T- Ss 1 min Give a summary to make Ss understand what they have learned clearly.1. Learn about the life in Sunshine Town. 2. Learn some vocabulary:Beijing Opera, shopping mall, air pollution, local theatre, souvenir, country. 3. Learn how to introduce a place.
9 Emotional education To arouse Ss’ enthusiasm through this step—love their own hometown. T- Ss 1 min T: Love our hometown, protect our hometown. Better environment, better life!
10 Homework To consolidate what they’ve learned and arouse their interest. Individual work 1 min Level A: Recite some sentences:1.There are lots of things to do in Sunshine Town. 2. It is only 40 minutes from the centre of Beijing by underground.3.There is less air pollution in Sunshine Town than in other area of Beijing.4. You can shop until ten o’clock at night in Star Shopping Mall.5. Why don’t you visit our local theatre with us Level B: Write an article to introduce your hometown to Julia. If possible, Ss can make posters about their hometown.( The teacher can ask Ss to choose the level. )

本节课整个教学过程围绕“读”这一实践活动,以“练”这条主线贯穿于课文阅读教学中,始终以学生为主体,教师为指导,自始自终,有输入,有反馈。本节课将课文作为整体进行学习,以总—分—总的教学流程使学生一方面理解了课文内容,另一方面掌握了课文的篇章结构,提高了阅读能力,形成了一定的有效的学习策略。学生在阅读英语短文时,已学会从标题、上下文、关键词句等大胆预测文章意义,感知阅读材料的能力有所提高。同时教师引导学生掌握了一定的阅读技巧,如跳读、查读等。通过探索和尝试有效的英语阅读教学模式,引导学生参与、体验英语阅读的快乐,激发学生阅读的兴趣,培养学生良好的学习习惯和综合运用语言的能力。
