用法一：一般过去时表示过去某个时间或某一段时间内发生的动作或存在的状态，常和表示过去的时间状语连用，如yesterday, the day before yesterday, ... ago, just now, last ..., in 2018, in the past等。

用法二：一般过去时表示过去经常或反复发生的动作，可与often, usually, always等频度副词连用。如：

一般疑问句：Was\Were+主语+其它…？
肯定回答：Yes, 主语＋was/were. 否定回答：No, 主语＋was/were＋not.

探究三：含有实义动词的一般过去时。
在一般过去时中，如果动词为实义动词，那么要把实义动词改为过去式形式。
She went (went为go的过去式) to Jinan last Sunday. 上周日她去济南了。
They played (played为play的过去式) basketball yesterday afternoon.
昨天下午他们打篮球了。

探究四：实义动词的过去式变化。
实义动词的过去式变化分为规则变化和不规则变化。
规则变化有以下几种：
动动脑： (说出规则动词过去式的构成规律 )
work→worked watch→watched clean→cleaned play→played
live→lived
dance→danced
use→used
hope→hoped
plan→planned
trip→tripped
stop→stopped
一般在动词原形末尾加ed。
以e结尾的动词加d
以重度闭音节结尾的动词，如果末尾只有一个辅音字母，应先双写这个字母，再加-ed。
study→studied
worry→worried
carry→carried
“辅音字母+y”结尾的动 词，变“y”为“ i”再加ed

(1) 在清辅音后，-ed 读/t/。如walked /w kt/， stopped /st pt/。
(2) 在元音或浊辅音后，-ed读/d/。如lived /livd/，enjoyed / n d d/
(3) 在/t/和/d/后，-ed读/id/。 如studied /st did/.
规则动词过去式的构成
过去式构成有规律，一般词尾加-ed。
如若词尾有个e，直接加-d就可以。
辅音字母y结尾，变y为i加-ed。
一辅重闭作尾巴，双写之后加-ed。
He cleans his room every afternoon.
He is cleaning his room now.
He cleaned his room last weekend.
I do my homework every day.
I am doing my homework now.
I did my homework last night.
