Teaching objectives:

1. Learn about the poems about dogs and goldfish.
2. Learn how to create rhymes and write a poem.

1.Read the poems and get useful information about pets.
2. Enjoy the beauty and rhymes by reading aloud the two poems.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warm-up
1. Game time: (1) Guess the names of different animals with pictures.
(2) Guess the names of different animals with words or sentences.
2. Pair work: Which is your favourite pet Why do you like it (abilities & personalities)
Step II. Pre-reading
1. Free talk---Can you guess what is my favourite
2.New words--- What can dogs do
run after..., catch..., help hunt for..., do tricks, hide everywhere,...
But they can make trouble: fight with...,bark at.., bite,
How can you look after them build camps out of sticks, give...a gentle touch ...
Step III. While-reading
Today we are going to learn about dogs and goldfish.
What kind of passage are they poems by poets
Task1: My dog:
1. Listen and answer : What does the poet think of the dog
2. Read & answer: What is the dog like
3. Find the words in rhyme: ...rhymes with...
Task2: My goldfish
1. Read and answer: Why does the poet like goldfish
2. Find the word in rhyme: ...rhymes with...
3. Enjoy the beauty of the poem by reading.
Step IV. Post-reading
1. Enjoy more famous English poems.
Row row row your boat, Twinkle twinkle little star
2. Group work: (1)Think about more words in rhyme with the given ones.
(2) Choose words to complete the poems.
(3) Try to create new poems about animals: why you like& what it can do...
Step V. Summary
Talk about the relationship between animals and humans.
Step VI. Homework
1. Read and recite the two poems.
2. Compare them with some Chinese poems and find out some similarities or differences.
3. Enjoy or create more English poems.
