The glacier in the national park has been receding (减退) for years. Photographers from the past 12 years show how the glacier has receded. But such breaks from glacier in the park have not happened since the early 1990s.
Usually, glaciers melt and flow (流) into lakes and rivers. The huge blue-white ice is now floating freely in the nearby lake. It will threaten (威胁) passing boats and ships once it moves out to sea and breaks up into smaller pieces. It will also cause a rise in the sea level.
There are 24,133 glaciers in Chile. These icebergs are very important to local eco-systems. But experts say that human activities are threatening them. In the future, more glaciers will break or melt due to global warming.

There are ways of understanding the weather. One way is to study the clouds.
We can see the different kinds of clouds and watch them for signs of changing weather. To forecast the weather, there are three things about clouds we should look for: movement, colour, and change.
As a rule, the higher the clouds are, the better the weather is. And the lower the clouds are, the worse the weather is likely to be. Fair-weather cumulus clouds (积云) are another sign of good weather. Clouds can tell us if a storm is on the way. If the thick, fluffy cumulus clouds get bigger early in the day, then we know it will rain. If a sudden, cool and dark thunder (雷) cloud appears, a storm is coming.
Colours in the sky tell us about the weather, too. For example, a golden ring around the Moon warns us that a storm is on the way.
The rainbow (彩虹) has a message, too. If we see the Sun in the east and the rainbow in the west, the rain may be coming its way. If the Sun is in the west and the rainbow is in the east, the rain will be moving away from us.
