Analysis of teaching materials The teaching material is the reading part from Oxford English module 1, unit 2. The topic of this module is social communication. The subject of the teaching material is “body language” and the genre is narration. The article tells the following story: Debbie and Simon, two students who work part-time in a travel agency, make different impression on customers because of their different body languages. Simon didn’t realize the reason why customers always ask Debbie for help until Mr.Yang helped him identify the problem. He then try to improve his body language. The passage is not difficult to understand, but some expressions may be new to Ss.
Analysis of Ss After a year of study in middle school, the 40 Ss from grade 8 in an ordinary middle school have great interests in learning English. Students can express themselves in English and have their own understandings of body language, but most students are not good at integrating knowledge with reality and logical analysis.

② Act and guess: What do they mean Act them out and guess. (Pictures shown on PPT) Brainstorming: How many kinds of body language do you know Look at the pictures and try to act out different body languages, with one Ss acts out and the rest of the class guess the exact meaning. With the help of T, Ss point out body language includes expressions, gestures and so on.
Pre- reading ③ Observing: Who gives you a good impression (display pictures shown different body language, with new words besides them). Observing: Show the picture from the book, let Ss decide who is more friendlier. The whole class look at the picture and share their feelings. Then they will learn some new words that relate to body language. Ss observe the picture and come to an conclusion that Debbie looks more friendlier. While- reading ④ Ask Ss to skim the article for main idea and text type, scan it twice for detailed information, then finish the exercises.
