Unit 1 My name is Gina
Teaching Period: The first period of unit 1 for Grade 7
Teaching Contents: Section A(1a – 2c)
Ⅰ.Teaching material analysis
The topic of unit1 is about “making new friends”. This lesson is the first period in this unit. Students are required to master the ways to greet new people and introduce each other in order to make new friends. After learning, students will know more about how the English people make friends and they will gain some confidence through the lessons. As the old saying goes: well begun is half done. Therefore, this period is of great significance for the coming lessons.
Ⅱ.The analysis of the students
The students of Grade7 have been learning English for 3 or more years in elementary schools. But their learning is shallow and not successive or systematic because it isn’t necessary for their teachers to go into the language points and structures deeply. What they do mostly are reading aloud and some games for fun. After all, English was not a major. most countryside kids consider English a very difficult and less useful subject. So, on the one hand, it is my duty to make the class interesting and lively to attract their attention; on the other hand, it is necessary for me to push the falling-behinds to pick themselves up and carry on.
Ⅲ.Teaching Objects:
1.Knowledge Objects
(1)The students master the usage of the important words: name, your, nice, meet, his, her, he ,she…

we sing the alphabet song together but only clap our hands at even number letters. It’s fun but easily get wrong. So everybody will enjoy it.
Purpose of my design: To cultivate a relaxing atmosphere and warm up the students.
Step 2. . Leading in and presentation
1. Now we come to learn the new lesson. I will teach my students the name song. I use the music of Two Little Tigers, which makes learning easy and interesting. I will arrange two activities: (1)to make out which sentence I am reading according to my sounds. (2)sing the song in duet form. Then students are required to find out the new words and learn them. I will add up a few more. They have to find out the Chinese meaning to the words. After we get familiar with the words, I will ask one student to label the phonetic symbols to every new word on the blackboard.
Purpose: The Grade 7 kids are still childish. Songs are definitely their favorite. Two little tigers is a popular Chinese children’s song which is not only funny but easy to learn. I make use of it is to help the students to master the sentence patterns easily and quickly so as to go on with the following conversations smoothly. Learning phonetic symbols is important and helpful for the students to study on their own in the petitions are to create an active learning atmosphere.
Step 3. Finish tasks of 1a-1c.
1.1a: Write English words for the things in the picture as many as they can.
It is easy for the students because most of the words are from the starter units. So they are advised to finish it individually.

Before listening, the students are to read the three conversations once and then begin
to listen for the answers. They have to pay attention to the first sentence while
listening.
Check the answers.

2. I will show my students some boys’and girls’pictures with their names on them. All the names are from the text book. Then we’ll practice “What’s his name He is …. What’s her name She is …” together. Finally, the students sum up the usage and sort the names into groups of male and female by themselves.
3. Game. 打地鼠。8 students with certain names stand on the stage and one student with a plastic hammer stands in the circle as a tapper. When the teacher points at one name on the blackboard, the others ask and answer the question: what’s his/her name The tapper has to find the right person. If he doesn’t squat(蹲下),he will be hammered.
