In the past, man did not have to think about the protection of the environment. There were few people on the earth, and natural resources(资源) seemed to be unlimited(无限的) .

If we eat more vegetables and less meat, there will be more food available for everyone.

Finally, if we educate people to think about the problems, we shall have a better and cleaner planet in the future. In a word, it is very important to protect our environment.

The holiday’s upon us．After months of study, you have some time to yourself．So, why not read a book Well, some people will say, “Why trouble with books We have the Internet and other media (媒体) that offer a lot more colorful programs．Books are history!”
But don’t be fooled．There’s still a lot to be said for reading-and reading as widely as possible.(1) One clear reason is that a well-chosen ______ is a wonderful collection of ______ and expressions, so long as you have a good dictionary, of course．Believe me, it’s far easier to get new English words and expressions from a book or article than it is from the TV or the Internet．
(2) But an even more important point is that books give you something that modern media simply can not. The webpage（网页）is always full of pictures and the text is often designed to make it as easy to read as possible．
Though “easy” may be welcome, unluckily it’s of little use for any long-time development of reading skills and the general language level．For that, there’s still no substitute(替代品)for a book．
But perhaps the best single reason is that simply choosing what you read and doing it by yourself means that it’s something you do by and for yourself．You can choose what you want to read．It’s hard work, but while you are reading, you’ll find that what once seemed like a duty is now a pleasure．Reading can bring us pleasure.

A man named Nick went on a fishing holiday. Fishing was his favorite sport, and he had many prizes for fish he had caught.
One summer the weather was beautiful and fishing was supposed to be good, so he decided to travel around the countryside, spending a few days fishing in the rivers.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have much luck, and he caught only a few small fish. He was quite （A) ________ and was going to go back home, when he heard of a large river that was full of fish nearby.

Very often, new-born babies are not beautiful. They are wrinkled (多皱的) or hairless, or they have an angry look on their faces. They seem to say, “Get away! I hate everybody.” But to a parent, that hairless, wrinkled, angry-faced baby is the most beautiful and perfect child in the world. All over the world people enjoy sports. Sports help to keep people healthy and happy, and to live longer.
Many people like to watch others play games. They buy tickets or turn on their TVs to watch the games. Often they get very excited when “their” player or team wins.
Sports change with the seasons. People play different games in winter and summer. Swimming is fun in warm weather, but skating is good in w inter.
Some sports are so interesting that people everywhere go in for them. Football, for example, has spread around the world. There is always something that we can never forget. And it can really change our life.
Time is important for everyone. It organizes our everyday moments. However, (1)before I received a watch from my father, time never had any importance in my life. It organized my life and made me more responsible.
I received this gift on a Sunday. I had to go to the airport at 9:00 am to pick up Uncle Jim and take him to my father’s house. However, I was late because I hung out with my friends. In 1998, I wrote a letter for my future self with instructions not to open until my birthday 2010. It was now 2011, so I decided to open it. This is what it said:
Dear Sherri,
By the time you read this, you will be 30. At the age of 18 I had many hopes and dreams about you. A new study on students’ sleeping habits says that more than 70% of students do not get enough (1)______.
Researchers found that primary school students got about 9 hours’ sleep a night; middle school students got about 8 hours’ sleep a night; and senior high school students(高中生) slept for about 7 hours a night. What is it like being an actor Many people think it must be wonderful because we travel to exciting places, wear beautiful clothes and (A)挣钱多. This is only one aspect(方面) of our lives though. We also work very hard.
I played a country girl in my last (B) movie. I had to live in a small village with the other actors for part of the winter. (C)It was really hard for me as I grew up in a city.
