Unit 5 TV Shows Lesson 1 Teaching Design
1. Analysis of Teaching Material
This lesson includes 3 parts: let’s learn, let’s talk and let’s write. In section 1, it mainly deals with the new words. In section 2, it provides a real situation for the Ss to practice the patterns. And in section 3, the Ss work in groups to write a small composition.
2. Analysis of the Ss
The Ss are in Grade Five, they can master the basic English, they can speak the simple English. So in the English class, we will make more activities between the students, to improve the Ss’ ability of using English.
3. Teaching Aims
Next, I want to say something about my teaching aims.
Aims on the knowledge
The Ss can listen, read, say and spell the following words: wonderful, cool, fantastic, cartoons, news shows and nature shows.
Ss can use the new words to make phrases and sentences.
To enable the Ss to understand and speak: What are your favourite TV shows My favourite TV shows are music shows. Why Because it’s fantastic. Make sure that Ss can use the sentences in real situations.
Aims on the abilities
To develop Ss’ abilities of listening and speaking.
To foster Ss’ abilities of communication and their innovation.
To train the Ss’ ability of working in groups.
Aims on the emotion
To foster Ss’ consciousness of good co-operation and proper competition.
Lead the Ss to show their feelings to others.
4. Key points and difficult points.
Let me say something about the key points and difficult points of this lesson.
Key points
To help Ss read the new words and use them in phrases and sentences.
To help Ss ask and answer the question: What are your favourite TV shows Why
To enable Ss to study in groups and co-operate skillfully
Difficult points
The pronunciation of fantastic and nature.
Make sure the Ss can use the pattern in real situation.
The Ss can finish the composition by themselves.
4. The task-based method, communicated method, group cooperate method will be used in this lesson.
5. Teaching procedures and purposes of designing
I will finish this lesson in five steps
Step 1 Warm-up and revision
In order to attract the Ss’ attention and construct the atmosphere of learning English, I let the Ss chant and revise the words they have learnt before. After this, Let the Ss make dialogues by using the patterns they learnt in last lesson.
Step 2 Presentation
(Present the pattern ”What are your favourite TV shows ”)
With the help of PPT, show the new pattern “What are your favourite TV shows ” on the screen. Help the Ss understand the meaning, and make sure they can say it correctly. Lead the Ss to make dialogues like this: “What are your favourite TV shows My favourite TV shows are music shows or my favourite TV shows are nature shows.”
(Teach the new words: cartoons, news shows, nature shows, wonderful, cool, fantastic)
The substance of language is communication. So when I teach the new words. I show some videos of nature shows and music shows, then I ask: What kind of TV shows are they Do you like to nature shows Why According to the questions, lead the Ss answer the questions and teach the new word: cartoons, news shows, nature shows, wonderful, cool and fantastic. These three words about feelings are all adjectives, so I lead the Ss to make phrases or sentences by using them, such like : wonderful cartoons, cool sports shows or the nature shows are fantastic.
(Game)
There are lots of ways to consolidate the new knowledge. Playing game is a good way. So I hold a group of competition during the game: call two students come to the front, maybe one girl and one boy, they show their back to teacher, and face to their classmates. The teacher show a word card, Ss say it quietly with no sound, meanwhile let the two students watch their classmates and guess what word is it. The student who says it first is the winner.
Step 3 Practice
Task-based method is used here to develop Ss’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.
I ask Ss to listen to the tape with 3 questions. Then ask 3 Ss to answer the question.
In class, Ss play as a host. T makes a guider, help Ss to understand the dialogue in Part B, and ask Ss to make a dialogue in pairs.
Step 4. Extension
Let the students write a small composition about “What kind of TV shows do you and your friend like Why ” Work in groups. Ss can ask each other, they can also correct the sentences with each other. After 3 minutes, the T calls several Ss to read their composition.
